Dear Robbie,

It‘s been a long time since we left our junior high school. How is everything going?

I do enjoy the new school life here. I‘ ve met quite a lot of new teachers and schoolmates, and they are very kind to me. Do you still remember how I hated English? But I‘m pretty crazy about this subject now. Unbelievable, isn‘t it? Well, I never thought that a teacher would change my opinion on English learning, but it just happened.

Mr. Mills is our English teacher, and I‘m very much impressed by his attitudes towards teaching. He always prepares his lessons well before class and acts out what he wants to teach in class. While he is teaching, he walks about, using his arms, hands and fingers to help him in his explanations, and his face to express his feelings. We can hear the loudness and the musical tone (音调) of his voice always changing according to what he is talking about. He believes that no class hour is successful if the students can‘t share several chuckles (格格的轻笑声) and at least one loud laugh. Through his sense of humor, he has made learning more enjoyable. Besides, he leads us to learn English in an imaginative way, using such aids as paintings, recordings, cartoons and flash cards. This morning, he even sang a song in class to explain a grammatical rule. I also admire the fact that he likes to meet students outside of the classroom to discuss different subjects in English, from the Internet to Pop music. Once he even challenged one of my classmates to a game of Chinese chess.

Do you like your new teachers there? Please don‘t forget to tell me something about your school life, OK? I just can‘t wait to get your letter.

Good afternoon, everyone, It’s my great pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. The content of my lesson is Senior English for China Book1 Unit 1 (My First Day at Senior High). I’ll be ready to begin this lesson from five parts. Analysis of the teaching material, the teaching methods, the studying methods, the teaching procedure , and Blackboard design. First, let me talk about the teaching material.

Analysis of the teaching material

This lesson is about the school life of a newcomer to Senior High. The reading part presents us what a newcomer sees, and feels on the first day at Senior High. The contents of this module are so closely to the real life of the students that it will surely arouse their interest in the classroom activities. By studying this lesson , Students can get a general idea on how to express their feelings about their teachers , classes and the school life in English.

Analysis of the students

The students have just entered the Senior High school. They can simply express their own thoughts with the knowledge they got in Junior School. They show great interest in their English study of Senior High . They are eager to get more information. However the teaching models in their

Junior School can’t adapt their English study in Senior High school. So we should combine the students with their real situations, try our best to let the students take part in our teaching activities in a relaxing atmosphere. Analysis of teaching aims

Knowledge objects:

The students can hear, read and use the main sentence patterns. The students can understand the content of the lesson.

The students can use the patterns to express their thoughts in the proper situation.

Ability objects:

To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

To train the students ability of working in pairs

To improve the students’ reading ability, especially their skimming and scanning ability.

3 Emotion or moral objects:

By completing the task, the students can increase their interest and set up self-confidence in their English study

To let the students know the serious attitude towards to the study. Analysis of teaching method and study method

According to the teaching content and the real situation of the students, I mainly use the following methods:

(3) 小组活动(pair-work and group-work)

(4)多媒体辅助教学(CAI)

(5)听说法(listening and speaking)

As for the learning methods, Let the students get the knowledge actively by probe study and cooperative study.

Teach the students how to describe their own school, class and their classmates in English .

2. Understand and use the adjectives ending with –ed and –ing Teaching steps Step 1 Lead-in (Discuss and compare)

T: Everybody , we have studied in a new school named Yibin city first middle school . Before you come here , all of you studied in different schools, now I will give you some time to think what the main differences and similarities between Junior High school and Senior High school.

And ask them to discuss these two problems:

1 Do you think that work at Senior High school is harder than that at Junior High school?

T: After we have compared Senior High school and Junior High school, now we will learn something about Li Kang’s First day at Senior High . Before we read the text, let’s learn some new words first.

Read the text quickly and try to find the answer to these questions:

a) What are the differences between Li Kang’s Junior High school and Senior High school?

b) What are the two things the English teacher thinks important to do in class?

Play the tape for the students and ask them to listen and read following the tape in a low voice. Then finish the forth part in Reading and Vocabulary on P3.
