Unit 9 What does he look like ?

Period 1

教学目标:

1.知识与技能目标:

She is medium build and she has long hair.

2.过程与方法:

通过例子‚I am thin; What do you look like"引人创设情景,让学生犹如身临其境,采用学生提出问题,学生回答问题,借助媒体来提高学生的主动性。 3.情感与文化目标:

通过描述同学、教师或自己的偶像的外貌,表达自己的看法,使学生在人际交 往中学会尊重和理解别人。

教学重、难点:

教学过程

Step 1: Free talk

T: What day is it today? S1: Today is Wednesday.

T: What’s the date today?

T: How are you? S2: Today is April 25th. S3: I’m fine. And you?

T: Fine. And How is the weather?

S4: It’s fine.( sunny, windy, rainy, cool, cold, warm, ..)

Step 2:Presentation

1Teacher can ask Ss some questions. If the weather is fine, what do you want to do? And If the weather is raining, what do you do at home? Then let Ss answer the questions freely. Then ask other students Do you like…? I like playing basketball, watching TV…. Then ask one girl the question, Do you have

a doll at home? The teacher takes out a doll. Then Let the girl answer the question.

2.Learn New words.

Then Let Ss look at the doll. Teach them how to describe the doll

What does it look like? It has long/ short hair. It is short and heavy. It has curly / straight hair. It is tall and thin.

Then take out some dolls to teach them new words:

hair, build, height, long , short, blonde, black, curly, straight, tall , thin , heavy, medium

Then let Ss read and remember these words

Step 3: Practice

Ask one student to come here, in front of BB

Then teacher asks one student ‚What does he look like?‛ Let the student describe him.

The teacher helps the student answer: He is tall. He is medium. He has short hair. His hair is black.

Then ask another student come here… Do the similar activities.

Step 4: Production:

1.Take out the picture, let Ss look at the picture and turn to the page 49. Finish 1a .Match the words in the picture and read these words.

2.Listen to the tape and fill in the blanks in the picture above on P49.Finish 1b

3.Find the Amy’s friend in the picture and read the dialogue

Step 5: Progress

Look at the pictures , describe them and practice the following dialogue: A: Is that your friend? B: Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.

A: What does he look like? B: He is medium build and he has long hair. A: What does he do?

A: What is he doing? B: He is a teaching. B: He is having an English class.

1. Let Ss take out their pictures, and then describe these cartoon boys and girls

2. Then teacher asks one student :

Teacher helps the student answer the question : I’m short . I’m thin. I have long hair. I wear school uniform .

Step 2: Chain game

Let Ss ask one by one in a group. Learn to describe themselves.

The teacher begins:

T: What do you look like?

S1: I’m thin. I’m tall. I have black hair.

What do you look like?

S2: I’m short. I’m heavy. I have short hair.

一、教材分析

本单元的教学核心项目是“描述人的外貌”(Describe People),涉及到讨论人的身高、体重、发型、面部特征及其着装等语言项目。教材内容围绕着描述人的外貌特点展开,让学生学会谈论人的身高、体重、发型、面部特征及着装特点,以人的外貌特征为主线,兼顾交际功能的学习,以一种循序渐进的生活化的学习程序,引导学生学会用英语介绍自己或他人的外表特征。这些内容与学生的实际生活密切相关,易于引发学生运用简单的英语进行交际和交流,所以在学习活动中,学生能通过交换对不同人物的描述及看法,促进学生之间和师生之间的情感交流,增进情谊。

二.教学目标:

本班的学生经过半年多的英语学习,有了一定的英语基础知识和听、说、读 写的能力;同时,学生们对英语学习有着较浓厚的兴趣。经过新课程理念的熏陶及实践,有了初步的自主、合作、探究的能力。

五、教法渗透:

1、教学设计思路:

《新目标英语》中的具体语言目标是通过各种各样的Tasks来实现的;学生需要运用具体而特定的行动来完成一定的交际任务。因此本节课将始终引导学生通过完成具体的任务活动来学习语言,让学生为了特定的学习目的去实施特定的语言行动,通过完成特定的交际任务来获得和积累相应的学习经验,让学生在用中学,在学中用(Learning by using, learning for using)。

2、教学方式和手段:

任务型教学法、多媒体辅助教学、情景交际教学法等。

3、学习方法指导:

本节课将在课堂活动中把学生分成学习小组,小组内分成互助小组,让他们围绕着课堂任务分工合作,在活动中相互探讨、相互交流、相互合作,从而获得知识、技能和情感体验,发展他们的能力。

Ⅰ. Warming-up and revision【unit,9,what,does,he,look,like,教学设计】

找出三名外貌差异较大的学生来做比较,一个胖而高大的男生(a fat and tall boy),一个瘦而较矮的男生(a thin and short boy),一个中等身材(of medium height)。

目的:引起学生的学习兴趣,了解人物的外貌特征,(即不管外貌如何在不同的游戏中都能获胜)的对比培养学生的情感和态度:不要以貌取人(Don’t judge by appearance)。

然后用这两名学生为例教heavy, tall, thin, short引出句型:

1. What do you look like? He’s really tall. He has long straight hair.

2. What does she look like? She’s of medium/build.

Ⅱ. Presentation (Section A 1a)

1. Match the words with the people in the picture. (1a)

学习课本的第一部分P49,1a先看图片,然后搭配图片和相关的外貌特征的词。

Now please look at P49, Use the letters to match the people in the picture with one of the numbered words. Write each letter next to a numbered word. You can use some letters more than once. Point out the sample answer. (Keys: c, f, a, a, d, h, e, b, g, e)

留2-3分钟读写1a中的单词、短语。

2. 引导学生熟悉有关描述人的外貌特征的词

(1). 用漫画画人物教有关height,curly等单词。然后操练

“What does he look like? He is really tall.” 注意be 动词的用法。

(2). 一个cartoon girl 教身体的各部位(ear, face, hair, eye, nose, mouth)。然后操练

“What does he look like? He has long straight hair.” 注意has的用法。

(3). pictures 来教有关头发的词汇, 注意has的用法。接着教a beard, a moustache, glasses。 Ⅲ. Practice (Section A 1c)

1. Read the conversation and recite it.

2. Practice like the conversation according to some pictures.

Ⅳ. Listening (1b, 2a & 2b)

1. Look at the picture of 1a, listen and fill the blanks in the picture. (1b)

Listen carefully and fill in the blanks and find Amy’s friend? We will listen twice.The first time, just listen.The second time,

listen and fill in the blanks.And say the look of Amy’s friend.( He's really tall.And he has curly hair.)

2. Listen and answer the questions. (2a)

3. Listen again and fill in the chart. (2b)

4. Listen a third time to understand the key words.

1. Student A looks at the chart in 2b. Student B asks Student A questions about one of the people and then draws a picture of the person quickly.

Ⅶ. Guessing game (李咏 潘长江)

全班同学分为两组,每组选出一名同学作为组代表到黑板前面来,这两位同学面向其他同学,背向黑板,不许回头。老师将两幅名人图片粘到黑板上或打在屏幕上等,然后分别请这两组同学向本组的组代表描述本组图片上人的外貌、工作(第四单元知识点)或其他相关情况,让本组的组代表最快猜到本组图片上名人是谁的小组获得胜利。在游戏过程中注意:描述的同学每人只能描述一次,并且只能描述一句,并尽可能多的描述人物外貌,在很难猜出时,可以描述工作或其他相关情况。

VII. Language points

1. We’re meeting at seven, right? 我们七点见,对吗?

1) meet相当于汉语中“集合;见面;碰头;聚集”。如:

Let’s meet at the school gate tomorrow at eight.

让我们明天八点在校门口集合。

2) right表示“对吗,是吧”,用来表示对此前陈述内容进行确认和核实。全句为Is that right? 口语中常用不完整的句子表达意见或想法。

2. …, but I may be a little late.

a little意为“有点儿”,用来修饰形容词。

e.g. It’s a little cold tonight.

今晚有点冷。

【拓展】a little意为“一些;少许”后跟不可数名词。

e.g. There’s a little meat in the bowl.

碗里有点肉。

3. Well, he has brown hair and wears glasses.

glass作“玻璃”讲时,是不可数名词;作“玻璃杯”讲时为可数名词;而glasses则是“眼镜”之意。

e.g. Glass is broken easily.

玻璃很易碎。

There’s no water in your glass.

你的杯子里没有水了。

Does she wear glasses? 她戴眼镜吗?

4. He isn’t tall or short. 他不高也不矮。

英语在受到否定概念限定的部分中一般不用and, 而用or。

e.g. I don’t have any brothers or sisters.

我没有兄弟和姐妹。

在以上这种用法中,or相当于and not。试比较:

Sophie never cleans or even offers to wash the dishes.

=Sophie never cleans and does not even offer to wash the dishes.

索菲从不打扫房间,甚至从不主动洗碗。
