悲剧的根源——个人信仰、时代氛围与人生意叉。其深层

的意识形态根源是“超人”哲学的破产、物质消费主义的破产和终极信仰的缺失。具有社会学和人生哲学的深层内

涵。

二十世纪美国著名现实主义作家杰克・伦敦的人生颇富传奇色彩：由出身社会下层的一个卑微的水手到声名鹊起、蜚声文坛的畅销书作家。直至最后本当人生壮年的时候却以诡异的方式（４０岁时死于服用过量的吗啡１离开了这个世界．他的一生宛如一颗转瞬即逝却又璀璨夺目的流星，在文学史上留下了亮丽的一笔。探究他短暂一生的人生轨迹．我们发现以其写作事业的成功为分水岭，他的人生态度迥然不同：成功前积极向上坚毅刚强．成功后颓废堕落。何以造成如此之大的反差哪？本文尝试着从个人性格、时代氛围与人生意义的视角作一剖析。

一、个人的悲剧

至刚者至弱

“超人”哲学的破产

杰克．伦敦一生信奉尼采的超人哲学。

私生子出身的杰克．伦敦对个人主义和超人哲学的信奉与其童年的苦难记忆有关。他１１岁就外出打零工谋生．１４岁因为参与偷袭私人牡蛎场而被抓获。被罚做苦工。正是由于尝尽了穷苦困顿、颠沛流浪之苦，杰克・伦敦内心中从不公平、不平等的社会处境中突围的冲动才显得格外强烈。与其无助和软弱地等待。不如与命运殊死一搏。坎坷的人生经历和对底层生活的深切体验为他的写作提供了丰

富的素材。

经过坚韧不拔的努力．终于成为了名噪一时的畅销书作家。取得了个人奋斗的成功。

但是．一旦站在了成功的巅峰之后呢？

尼采说：“创造是痛占的大救济和生命的慰藉。”告别苦难之后．杰克．伦敦创造力和写作质量迅速下降．在失去精神自我的道路上越走越远。一生坚守强者信念、超人哲学的杰克．伦敦在空虚和孤独面前变得异常脆弱。他被自己所创造的成功事业打败了。

成名之后的杰克．伦敦陷入了金钱的泥沼．写作粗制滥造．批量复制了一些低劣之作。他的生活也充满了堕落气息．在购置游船、建造豪华别墅中，打发着内心的无聊。

而这无聊增长到极限，死亡便成了唯一的选择。杰克・伦敦用自杀的方式结束了他４０岁的生命。

杰克．伦敦仿佛在用自己的死告诉人们：文学注定是一项受苦的事业．过于舒适和奢华的生活是它的末日。

杰克．伦敦的生活经历也从某种角度上印证了中国哲学《道德经》的一句名言：“至刚者至弱”。

二、时代的悲剧美国梦的幻灭物质消费主义的破

产

杰克．伦敦个人悲剧所折射的是美国梦的幻灭。所谓的美国梦（ＡｍｅｆｉｃｆｉｌｌＤｒｅａｍ）．是一种相信只要在美国经过努力不懈的奋斗便能获致更好生活的理想。亦即人们必须透过自己的工作勤奋、勇气、创意、和决心迈向繁荣．而非依赖于特定的社会阶级和他人的援助。通常这代表了人们在经济上的成功或是企业家的精神。许多欧洲移民都是抱持著美国梦的理想前往美国的。

“美国梦”背后的真正动力是什么？一些历史学家认为，就是对财富的渴求和追逐。康涅狄格州立大学历史学教授马修．沃肖尔指出：“对金钱的追求，是‘美国梦’中不变的成分。”

对金钱和物质的过度追求导致物质主义的倾向。物质主义以可以直接享用的物质为生活的首要和中心价值．强调物质利益的极端重要性．主张人的最大幸福就是物质

享受．社会进步的唯一标志就是人们的物质福利的改进。物

质主义是一种普遍的伦理取向．可能支配个人生活的伦理态度．也支配国家的性质与职能。

杰克．伦敦死后三十多年的美国著名戏剧家阿瑟・米勒谴责了美国梦的虚幻性。１９４９年阿瑟・米勒（与尤金・奥尼尔和田纳西．威廉姆斯一道。被称作是２０世纪美国戏剧界三位最优秀的戏剧家１写下了被誉为“美国第一部杰出悲剧”的作品：《推销员之死》。该剧剖析了人们因盲目相信美国梦所付出的代价．米勒控诉美国社会兜售的一个神话。这个神话是围绕二战之后兴起的资本主义物质至上主义建立起来的。这种物质至上主义抹杀了人生真谛。模糊了美国的立国者们当初倡导的道德观念。这种物质至上主义就是当今人们普遍意识到的消费主义．它鼓励人们极可能多地攫取商品并且将人生的意义建立在商品消费上。

王元化先生担心２１世纪恐怕是文化崩溃的时代．可能就是在这个意义上。试想，科学并非万能，人类的世界资源有限环境有度．而人类的内心贪欲无限需求无边。如果任由物质消费主义主宰人心．用刺激消费需求消费欲望的方式拉动经济增长．那么人类千百年所累积形成的宗教情怀、道德风尚、精神文明就可能迅速堕落。这无异于割自己的肉饱自己的口。

三．人生的悲剧

终极信仰的缺失

从某种角度来说．杰克．伦敦人生态度突变的根源是终极信仰的缺失。

在西方．人们曾经在人本主义思潮和现代化进程中，提出“上帝死了”的口号．似乎现实功利主义就可以满足人类的一切需求。事实却相反。即使在东方社会，由于极端的“理性主义”追求．在科学技术和物质生活日益发达的背景下。

颓败与没落的历史必然

——意识流关照下的《喧嚣与骚动》

摘要：意识流关熙下的《喧嚣与骚动》是威廉．福克纳创作顶峰时期的一部杰作．作品运用高超的意识流手法，讲述了康普生一家由兴盛转向衰败的历史过程．由此揭示了康普生一家颓败与没落的内外因素及历史盐然．让读者看到了美国南北战争之后南方社会的迅速崩溃．为旧南方的没落贵族弹奏了一曲凄凉的挽歌。旧南方的解体是历史的必然．任何阻碍人类文明进程的东西都逃脱不了被摧毁的命运。

作为表现潜意识和隐秘意识内容的主要手段之一。本文拟从意识流的角度分析《喧嚣与骚动》中颓败与没落的历史必然。

二、颓败与没落的内外因素

《喧嚣与骚动》是威廉・福克纳（Ｗｉｌｌｉ黜Ｆａｌｌｌｋｎｅｒ）最知

名的一部作品。书名的典故出自莎士比亚悲剧《麦克白》第五幕第五场麦克自的台词：“人生如痴人说梦。充满着喧嚣与骚动．却没有任何意义。”口小说的故事发生在杰弗生镇上的康普生家。这是一个曾经显赫一时的望族，袒上出过一位州长、一位将军。家中原来良田万顷，黑奴成群。如今家道败落．仅剩下一瞳破败的宅院和黑佣老婆婆迪尔西。本文拟从意识流的角度来分析这一曾经显赫一时的望族颓败与没落的历史必然。

（一）家族成员的心智不健全是内因

家庭成员的心智不健全造成了家庭发展方向的偏离和发展重心的倾斜．直至颓败与没落。特别是作为这个家庭一家之主的康普生虽然是位律师，但从未接洽业务．整天喝得酩酊大醉、愤世嫉俗、悲观失望。康普生太太感到自己受委屈，害怕吃亏，总是斤斤计较，她身为人母，却一直自居为南方大家闺秀。无病呻吟．自私自利，不能给家中任何人以母爱的温暖。她和康普生育有一女三男，从大到小的顺序依次是：大儿子昆丁、女儿凯蒂、儿子吉生及班吉。他们的不正等不良习气当然殃及到其子女：女儿凯蒂是小说的中心。她曾经天真活泼、充满活力．福克纳通过意识流动的手法，揭示她悲哀的人生历程．她所在的家庭是那样的冰冷，那样的缺乏爱，她无视南方贵族的家规，轻佻而堕落，被人引诱而怀孕，她不得不冲出家门．不得不匆匆嫁给另一男子，把爱的赝品当作爱加以接受，后来丈夫发现隐情．抛弃了她，她只得把私生女寄养在娘家．自己进城市以卖身为生。流落街

一百年造成杰克．伦敦人生悲剧的文化因素依然存在．杰克・伦敦的人生遭遇对生活在当代的人们依然有所启迪。

一、意识流的涵义认知

以意识流为理论基础创作的小说是以人物内在的．主要是非理性、非自觉地精神生活为小说的基本内容Ｉｎ。在选材上．意识流作家不大注意外部世界的生活，他们竭力要表现的是人的内心世界．现实生活只是作为内心生活的陪衬、意识的折光和意识活动的引发物出现的。意识流小说中的事物不是一种客观的存在物．而是经过了作家的意化．是作品中人物某种意识的象征物。意识流小说主要的叙述手法是梦呓般的内心独白．独自的是非理性的心理内容。这种独白常常是混乱纷杂、无逻辑、无中心的，总是一个思绪混入另一个思绪．过去、现在、将来的事件杂糅叙述。形式上象没有河道的流水。似乎是没有控制、没有方向、没有目标的流动：意识流小说独特的复合结构是自由联想和时空倒错．在意识活动的过程中。人们的注意力集中于某一点上的时间不会太长．常常会由一个事物联想到另一个事物．诸多联想随意穿插跳跃．过去、现在、将来同时呈现；象征也是意识流小说常用的写作手法，意识流作家认为用明确的表意语言不能揭示潜意识的隐秘．难以表达各种意识间深层的内在联系．因此他们选择了象征手法却不断地出现信仰危机与人生迷茫．在感官刺激不断满足的时候，带来了严重的精神空虚。也就是说，人类没有了信仰的支撑。反而日益失去了尊严和幸福。

因此，人类需要重新构筑精神家园，来确立生命的价值和生存的意义。所谓精神家园．是精神和心灵始终离不开的依托．是超越物质层面上的坚定不移的精神追求的目标和人生努力的方向，失去了它就使人生漂泊无住、迷失沉沦。在宗教．它就是终极目标、终极关怀。终极目标是社会群体伦理生活的根，它赋予生活方式、理想追求的价值意义．使社会道德行为成为个人自发的、主动的、神圣的、持久的、美好的、无限的，而且让道德行为者超越世俗、超脱人生。
