Friend ship

Everybody need friends. It’s very important for us to know how to make friends.

How to make friends? At first, we should be friendly to each other, and make strangers at home, wherever they are, and think more of others than ourselves. We shouldn’t quarrel with our friends if we have different opinions with them.

Don’t believe the man who leaves you when you are in danger because everyone knows “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”

Staying at Home Alone

Thuesday Nov. 16, 2003 Fine

I took my school report and came back home cautiously only to find mother wasn't at home. She went to my aunt's and wou!d come back in the evcning. I knew that fi'om a note on the table. I was still a little bit frightened as if mother would come back suddenly.

Seeing the low marks on the school report and remcmbering mother's cold face, I almost trembled with fear. lf mother know I got so low marks oa the subjects, especially English, she would tear all my cartoon books which are my fovourite. I have been treating them as my own life for a long time. But mother always thought cartoon diverted my attention from study and had a bad effect on me. Frankly speaking, I had realized it. Mother hated those books. She had warned me if I got low marks once more she would get rid of them. I Still wanted to keep those books even if I would mever touch them from then on. What should I do? I knew that any persuation was in vain. I would prevent mother from doing that.

A good idea stroke me. I gathered all the books and put them in a box. Then, I hid the box under my bed. Having done it carefully, I had a breathing spell.

Opening the English book, I sat at the desk and began to read. It was really the time that I learned English carefully, I thought.

My favourite teacher is Miss Huang. She is a beautiful lady. She has two big eyes, a high nose and a little red mouth. There is always a smile on her face.

Miss Huang likes singing and collecting posters. She is good at playing the piano. In the evening, she always sits in front of the piano and plays nice music. She is good at dancing, too. Sometimes she teaches us dancing.

Miss Huang likes dogs very much because the dog is very friendly and cute. Her favourite color is blue. Because blue is the color of the sky and the sea.

This is my favourite teacher. Our classmates all like her very much.

一、Changes In Our Life

Over the past twenty years or so, great changes have taken place in our life. Take my family for example. My parents contacted others mainly by sending them letters in the past, but now we call long distance at home. And once my parents listened to the radio for news and other information, but now we watch the news and other programs on TV.

And I think another big change is in the housing conditions. When they got married about twenty years ago, my parents lived in a small room crowded with furniture, but now we have moved into a big new three-room apartment. In short, changes in our life in the past twenty years have brought us comfort and convenience.

二、 Xiao Hong is going to learn to ride bicycles. She is on the bike and ready to ride when her father, mother and grandmother come and help her.Her father holds one handle of the bike, and her mother holds the other, with a first-aid box on the shoulder. Her grandmother holds the back seat tightly. They are all wet with sweat. However, the bike is being moved not by Xiao Hong herself but by her parents and grandmother. "Let me do it myself, will you?" says Xiao Hong to them. From this picture, we can see how much the parents care for the children. In my opinion, it is right that parents should take care of their children. But as children, we need the chance to learn and practice some skills by ourselves. We need to grow up independently. Let us do it ourselves.

On a sunny day, Xiao Hong is learning to ride bicycles. She is about to ride when her parents and grandmother come and help her. They hold the handles and the back seat. Her mother carries a first-aid box on the shoulder. They look worried and are all wet with sweat. The bike moves ahead. However, it is driven not by Xiao Hong but by her parents and grandmother. "Let me do it myself, will you?" says Xiao Hong to them. In fact, the parents love their children very much. I agree that parents should take good care of their children, but parents shouldn't help them do everything. After all children need to practice and be independent. They need to grow up themselves. Parents should stand aside and let them do if they can do it themselves.

三、Mobile Phone

As can be seen from the charts more and more people own mobile phones in China now. At the end of 2002, there were 20 million mobile phone users. By the year 2005 the number has

reached up to 30 million. People have found mobile phones very convenient. They can get in touch with each other whenever and wherever they like. There are many different functions to meet different needs, such as sending short messages and surfing the Intemet.

However, it may also bring us some trouble. For example, if someone calls you by mistake, you will have to pay for this kind of unnecessary calls. And the radiation from the phone may do

harm to our health, In spite of this, the number of people having mobile phones is still increasing steadily.

四、Don’t Lose Your Courage

Never shall I forget the first English lesson given by Miss Liu. On that day, when she entered the classroom, we found that she was a young and beautiful lady with a big smile on her face. Then she introduced herself saying that we should call her Miss Liu instead of Teacher Liu, a moment later, she let all of us go to the blackboard and say something about ourselves in English in turn. When it was my turn, I felt so shy and fearful that I didn’t dare to say a word before the class. She came up to me and said kindly, “Don’t be afraid. I believe you can do it. Come and have a try.” My face turned red when I heard that. At last, I went to the blackboard and was able to do it quite well. She praised for what I had done. Up to now, I can still remember her words in the first English lesson: “Practice makes perfect. Don’t lose your courage when you meet with difficulties. Try on and on until you succeed.”

(Chengdu's Spring Festival)

without any reservations, we chance an early rise and head for the airport to get the 8:50 flight to Kunming where we began. There we learn the next available flight to Chengdu is not until late afternoon. We cab to Kunming University and hang around to read. For lunch we go to Dico’s, a chicken chain by Cuihu Park. After lunch we enter the park and read some more. We go back to the airport for a very bumpy flight. Chengdu is the capital of Si (four) Chuan (rivers), the most populous but perhaps most fertile province with its abundant flora. We take the bus to downtown Chengdu, where we roam around fending off various pu hustlers who mob us, eventually treating ourselves to a decent hotel. The flush toilet and tub make the price worthwhile. It is

evening but it’s been a long day so I nap. Late, we head out and get a pedi-cab to take us to the famous Chengdu Restaurant but she takes us to the famous Chengdu Hotel instead; by the time we find it, it’s closed anyway. We wander the street markets until we stumble onto an

outside hotpot restaurant. At Beer City, we negotiate a two-fer entry price. Half a dozen guys at the next table have been taking advantage of the unlimited free beer and keep coming over. After a couple of entertainers, the dance floor opens up. Monday morning, James – a senior at

the local tourism high school – meets us to show us around. The poet Du Fu is considered China’s Shakespeare so we visit the thatched cottage where he lived and worked. From there we walk through the street market to a trolley car which takes us along the river until it scrapes a cab. We get out and walk a bit then take a cab to the Chengdu Restaurant (again!) to sample the local hot cuisine. We take a cab to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base and stroll around a bit watching the playing pandas. A pedi-cab takes us to the zoo where we get a cab to Renmin Park. After some strolling, we stop at the teahouse by the lake which is the oldest in Chengdu. We walk back to the hotel and Debbie gets a takeout at Dico’s while I nap. A couple of hours later we reverse roles, so I wander to a local pub for a cheeseburger and brew and briefly check my e-mail.

As is well-known to all, books teaches us to learn life, truth, science and many other useful

things. They increase our knowledge, broaden our minds and strengthen our characters. In others

Food and Health

Nowadays, with the improvement of people’s living standards, health is a hot topic that many people are concerned about. But how to keep healthy? In my opinion, appropriate and healthy food is a key part in keeping healthy. Every day, we eat a variety of food in order to keep our body in balance. Our body needs various foods which offer different nutrients. But too much chocolate and ice-cream may get us fat or even sick. So we must be careful about what we eat and how much we eat. In a word, reasonable and balanced diets are the keys to staying healthy. So we should pay more attention to healthy food.

Relax Yourself

What does it mean to relax?Despite hearing this term thousands of times during the course of our

lives, very few people have deeply considered what it's really about.

When you ask people (which I have done many times) what it means to relax, most will answer in

a way that suggests that relaxing is something you plan to do later you do it on vacation, in a hammock, when you retire, or when you get everything else done. This implies, of course, that most other times should be spent nervous, agitated, rushed, and frenzied. Very few actually come out and say so, but this is the obvious implication.Could this explain why so many of us operate as if life were

one great big emergency?

It is useful to think of relaxation as a quality of heart that you can access on a regular basis rather than something reserved for some later time. You can relax now. It's helpful to remember that relaxed people can still be superachievers and, in fact, that relaxation and creativity go hand in hand. When I'm feeling uptight, for example, I don't even try to write. But when I feel relaxed, my writing flows quickly and easily.

As the pace of modern life continues to quicken, many people are in the habit of rushing through life. Some admit that stress seems to be on the increase all the time. A certain degree of stress is beneficial to us, but too much stress is certainly harmful, and sometinles may even harmful to our health and physique. So it is necessary to know how to reduce stress.

There are many ways that can help us solve this problem, but the following may be the most effective. First, learn to COllie to terms with yourselves. Don't set a goal that is too high because there are many things in this world that are beyond your reach. Learn to be content to go as far as you can. Second, learn to COllie to terms with the world around you. Don't try to change other people or other things. There are people and things in this world that you can do nothing about. So learn to accept them. Third, don't be too interested in material things and don't try to "keep up with the Joneses." Don't harbor any jealousy, vanity or resentment to others. Be satisfied with what you have. Finally, keep in touch with your friends. Talk with them, share with them your happiness and misery. This will help to make you feel better.

These are not necessarily the only ways to solve the problem, and it is my hope that everyone

can reduce the too much stress in his work and study and live a relaxed happy life.

Some people think that life at present is better than life in the past. They think that now we are living a life that our ancestors could never have dreamed of. For instance, convenient foods from markets have simplified cooking. Electric appliances at home have taken the drudgery out of housework. New inventions have helped to make our work more sufficient and less tiring. Development in medicine has helped to make people live longer and healthier. It seems as if we were living in paradise.

Other people, however, believe that life in the past is better than life at present. They argue that in this highly competitive society people have to work even harder and learn much more in order to adapt to the fast pace of modern life. Moreover, people have to be sophisticated to deal with the many complicated matters in life and work. Development in industry has caused lots of pollution. New inventions have put many people out of work.

In my opinion, life always has its problems. There are problems now which people didn't have to face in the past, and there were also problems in the past which people don't have to confront today. Life is full of happiness if we should be optimistic. We should smile through everything whether it is happiness or misery. This is the right attitude towards life.

It is clear that health is the foundation of one's future success. If you get sick, it is nearly impossible to pursue your career effectively, much less make your dreams come true. On the other hand, if you are stout and strong, you can go all out to overcome the obstacles that lie ahead of you.

Now that we know that health is the source of our energy, what should we do to maintain and enhance our health? First, we should exercise every day to strengthen our muscles. Second, we should keep regular reasonable hours. If we get up early, we can breathe fresh air. This habit can do wonders in our life. Third, there is a proverb that says, "Prevention is better than cure."

In short, health is more important than wealth. Those who are rich but love their health are no more fortunate than those who are poor. If you want your wish to come true, you should do exercise and keep fit. Health is the most important ingredient of your success.

MY DAILY LIFE 我的日常生活

Though my daily life is extremely monotonous, I try hard to adapt myself to it. Why? Because I intend to be a good student. I wish to render service to my country.

there is no doubt that happiness is the most precious thing in the world. Without it, life will be empty and meaningless. If you wish to know how to get happiness, you must pay attention to the following two points.

First, health is the secret of happiness (the key to happiness). Only a strong man can enjoy the pleasure of life.

Secondly, happiness consists in contentment. A man who is dissatisfied with his present condition is always in distress.

Passage 1

The Road to Happiness

There are a great many people who have all the material conditions of happiness, i.e. health and a sufficient income, and who, nevertheless, are profoundly unhappy. In such cases it would seem as if the fault must lie with a wrong theory as to how to live. In one sense, we may say that any theory as to how to live is wrong. We imagine ourselves more different from the animals than we are. Animals live on impulse, and are happy as long as external conditions are favorable. If you have a cat, it will enjoy life if it has food and warmth and opportunities for an occasional night on the tiles. Your needs are more complex than those of your cat, but they still have their basis on instinct. In civilized societies, especially in English-speaking societies, this is too apt to be forgotten. People propose to themselves some one paramount objective, and restrain all impulses that do not minister to it.

A businessman may be so anxious to grow rich that to this end he sacrifices health and private affections. When at last he has become rich, no pleasure remains to him except harrying other people by exhortations to imitate his noble example. Many rich ladies, although nature has not endowed them with any spontaneous pleasure in literature or art, decide to be thought cultured, and spend boring hours learning the right thing to say about fashionable new books that are written to give delight, not to afford opportunities for dusty snobbism.

Passage 2

Love Is Difficult

It is good to love, but love is difficult. For one human being to love another human being is perhaps the most difficult task that has been entrusted to us — the ultimate task, the final test and proof, the work for which all other work is merely preparation. That is why young people, who are beginners in everything, are not yet capable of love: it is something they must learn. With their whole being, with all their forces, gathered around their solitary, anxious, upward-beating heart, they must learn to love. But learning time is always a long, secluded time ahead and far on into life, and is solitude, a heightened and deepened kind of aloneness for the person who loves. Loving does not at first mean merging, surrendering or uniting with another person; it is a high inducement for the individual to ripen, to become something in himself, to become world in himself for the sake of another person; it is a great, demanding claim on him, something that chooses him and calls him to vast distances. Only in this sense, as the task of working on themselves, may young people use the love that is given to them. Merging and surrendering and every kind of communion is not for them, who must still, for a long, long time, save and gather themselves; it is the ultimate, it is perhaps that for which human lives are as yet barely large enough.

Passage 3

Business of Insurance Companies

Insurance companies do two types of business. One is general insurance against various forms of risk, and the other is long-term insurance which is mainly life insurance.

General insurers will agree to pay a person or company a sum of money in the event of something happening or not happening. It’s a big business today. If the project succeeds, shareholders in your company will expect to be paid a dividend. If you ask an insurer to

underwrite your project, then he will require a payment in advance, a premium. If the project succeeds, he keeps the premium, but you don’t pay him anything else. Paying a premium to an insurer or underwriter is often cheaper than paying a dividend to shareholders. If fewer dividends are paid to shareholders, then more money can be kept as retention to finance the company’s next project.

Another type of insurance business is the life insurance. It differs basically from general insurance in that it is based not on risk but on certainty — the certainty that each of us will one day die. Life insurance is the basis of pension funds which provide for retirement and guard against other contingencies such as ill-health, but is best seen by the financial economist as a means of collecting many small savings to put together into large investments, in short, as a form of intermediation.

Passage 4

Seasonal Affective Disorder

Some people feel sad or depressed during the winter months in northern areas of the world. They may have trouble eating or sleeping. They suffer from a condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, or S-A-D.

Victims of S-A-D suffer its effects during the short, dark days of winter. The problems are most severe in the months when there are fewer hours of daylight. When spring arrives, these signs disappear and S-A-D victims feel well again.

The National Mental Health Association reports that S-A-D can affect anyone. The group says young people and women are at the highest risk for the disorder. It says that an estimated 25 percent of the American population suffers from some form of S-A-D. About 5 percent suffer from a severe form of the disorder. Many people in other parts of the world also have the condition.

The idea of health problems linked to a lack of light is not new. Scientists have discussed the issue since the beginning of medicine. More than two-thousand years ago, the Greek doctor Hippocrates noted that the seasons affect human emotions.

Today, experts do not fully understand S-A-D, and yet they agree that it is a very real disorder.

To treat the disorder, victims of S-A-D do not need to wait until spring. Experts know that placing affected individuals in bright light each day eases the condition. There are other things people can do to ease the problem. They can increase the sunlight in their homes and workplaces and spend more time outdoors in the fresh air during the day.

One study found that walking for an hour in winter sunlight was as effective as spending two-and-one-half hours under bright light indoors.

Passage 5

Success Is a Choice

All of us ought to be able to brace ourselves for the predictable challenges and setbacks that crop up everyday. If we expect that life won’t be perfect, we’ll be able to avoid that impulse to quit. But even if you are strong enough to persist the obstacle course of life and work, sometimes you will encounter an adverse event that will completely knock you on your back.

Whether it’s a financial loss, the loss of respect of your peers or loved ones, or some other traumatic events in your life, these major setbacks leave you doubting yourself and wondering if

things can ever change for the better again.

Adversity happens to all of us, and it happens all the time. Some form of major adversity is either going to be there or it’s lying in wait just around the corner. To ignore adversity is to succumb to the ultimate self delusion.

But you must recognize that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved greatness despite facing hurdles so steep that easily could have crashed their spirit and left them lying in the dust. Moses was a stutterer, yet he was called on to be the voice of God. Abraham Lincoln overcame all difficulties during the Civil War to become our arguable greatest president ever. Helen Keller made an impact on the world despite being deaf, dumb, and blind from an early age. Franklin Roosevelt had polio.

There are endless examples. These were people who not only looked adversity in the face but learned valuable lessons about overcoming difficult circumstances and were able to move ahead.

Passage 6

Is Television a Blessing or a Curse?

It is universally accepted that television is playing an important part in people’s lives. But, there is an ongoing heated discussion as to whether television is a blessing or a curse.

Television keeps one better informed about current affairs, allows one to follow the latest developments in politics and science, and offers a great variety of programs which are both instructive and stimulating. The most distant countries, the strangest customs and the most attractive scenes of nature are brought right into one’s room or household.

However, some people insist that television is a curse rather than a blessing. They argue that it has brought about many serious problems. The major one is its effects on young people. Children are now so used to getting their information and entertainment from television that their literacy as well as physical ability has been greatly weakened. Even worse than that, vulgar commercials and indecent programs may cultivate their bad tastes, distort their view-points towards human life to such a degree that their minds might be corrupted.

To sum up, television has both advantages and disadvantages. What ever effects it has, one point is certain, television in itself is neither good nor bad. It is the use to which it is put that determines its value to society.

Passage 7

Few US Workers Who Could Telecommute Do So

One-quarter of the U.S. work force could be doing their jobs from home if all those able to telecommute chose to do so, and all those people working from home could translate into annual gasoline savings of $3.9 billion, according to the National Technology Readiness Survey. However, many still select to work at the office. The study found that 2 percent of U.S. workers telecommute full-time and another 9 percent do so part-time. But another 14 percent of workers have the option of telecommuting, or have jobs conductive to the practice but choose not to. “The numbers suggest that many people would rather work at the office even if their job allowed telecommuting,” said Professor P.K. Kannan, of the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. “That seems to suggest that even if employers were to say tomorrow that everybody had the option of telecommuting and you would save a lot of gas, that’s not going to happen. An hypothesis could be that people still need the ‘face time’ with their bosses. Another

thing is people miss the social interaction, just being at home.” And with a median one-way commute of 10 miles and a median one-way commute time of 20 minutes, the daily trip for many workers is not that bad, he added. Of those who can already telecommute, most do so only one, two or three days per week, the study found.

Passage 8

The Wholeness of Life

There is a wholeness about the person who has come to terms with his limitations, who has been brave enough to let go of his unrealistic dreams and not feel like a failure for doing so. There is a wholeness about the man or woman who has learned that he or she is strong enough to go through a tragedy and survive, she can lose someone and still feel like a complete person.

Life is not a trap set for us by God so that he can condemn us for failing. Life is not a spelling bee, where no matter how many words you have gotten right, you are disqualified if you make one mistake. Life is more like a baseball season, where even the best team loses one third of its games and even the worst team has its days of brilliance. Our goal is to win more games than we lose. When we accept that imperfection is part of being human, and when we can continue rolling

through life and appreciate it, we will have achieved a wholeness that others can only aspire to. That, I believe, is what God asks of us — not “Be perfect”, but “Be whole”.

If we are brave enough to love, strong enough to forgive, generous enough to rejoice in another’s happiness, and wise enough to know there is enough love to go around for us all, then we can achieve a fulfillment that no other living creature will ever know.

Passage 9

Workplace Friendships

A study into workplace relationships has found having a close friend at work can be a major distraction.

Respondents cited excessive chatting, having too much fun and an inability to separate work from play as contributing to a lack of focus.

“When faced with a work-related problem many people will prioritize their friendship over their responsibilities to their organization, which businesses may find concerning,” said psychologist and Auckland University of Technology lecturer, Dr. Rachel Morrison. “Workplace friendships are like a double-edged sword. The benefits of a friendly workplace can be really positive, but organizations should be aware of the potential difficulties and how to manage friendships at work.”

According to the study, many people were concerned about going “softer” with their friends and being expected to treat them with special privileges.

“People naturally want to make their friends feel special, but this conflicts with organizational practices or norms that are set up around fairness and equality. Difficulty in managing these expectations can create tension in the relationship.”

Respondents also experienced a great deal of anxiety about speaking to close friends about substandard work. A basic rule of friendship is being non-judgmental and accepting your friends weaknesses, but giving critical performance feedback conflicts with this.

“We also found issues related to confidentiality practices, which could mean friends have to refrain from sharing information. This can be really challenging for close friendships that have

norms of openness and disclosure,” Dr. Morrison said.

Dr. Morrison said organizations should try to provide friendly environments and encourage workplace friendships, but have policies in place to manage potential difficulties.

Passage 10

Love Your Life

However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it or call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults even in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the window of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace. The town’s poor seem to me often to live the most independent lives of any. Maybe they are simply great enough to receive without misgivings. Most think that they are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means, which should be more disreputable. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn to the old, turn to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.

Passage 11

Man Is Here for the Sake of Other Men

Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, and yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose.

From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know that man is here for the sake of other men — above all for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy. Many times a day I realize how much my own outer and inner life is built upon the labors of my fellow men, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received. My peace of mind is often troubled by the depressing sense that I have borrowed too heavily from the work of other men.

To ponder interminably over the reason for one’s own existence or the meaning of life in general seems to me, from an objective point of view, to be sheer folly. And yet everyone holds certain ideals by which he guides his aspiration and his judgment. The ideals which have always shone before me and filled me with the joy of living are goodness, beauty, and truth. To make a goal of comfort and happiness has never appealed to me; a system of ethics built on this basis would be sufficient only for a herd of cattle.

Passage 12

The Ways to Duck out of Work

Want to watch the World Cup in peace without the boss over your shoulder? Simple, con him.

A British Internet site offered fans an ingenious range of ways to duck out of work so they can watch games in comfort. The timings of the games, in the early morning or at midday, have posed a dilemma to millions of soccer-mad Britons used to watching games in the evenings or at weekends and desperate to follow England and Ireland’s World Cup progress live. The British government has already urged employers to bow to the inevitable and take a flexible attitude to

I must change

This is the first day of the second term. When I went back to my familiar school ,I found that everything was so energetic that I even felt I should do something to change myself.

It’s time for me to make change, I know.

But what can I do for it ? First , I make a plan, which include what I want to do in three years. Second, I asked many seniors for advice. When they known that I want to make my university more colorful, all of them were willing to giving me suggestion. Finally, of course, I must take action bit by bit!

As a college student, a university may be founded for us. We may study for many years with the advantages of learning. I want to change, I must change!

Today I am told to sing a song with one of my classmates. I can’t decide to choose which song to sing. I like singing but when I sing English songs, I’m very nervous because I don’t often sing English songs. In my impression, my spoken

English is not very standardized. But there is a common saying says: A penny saved is a penny earned. So I think if I practice more and more, I will speak it well.

It is a sunny day today, so I’m very happy to see the sunshine. Yesterday I felt cold but today I feel much better.

I think the English class given by English teacher has much difference with those given by Chinese teacher. The Chinese teachers attach importance to the grammar but English teachers attach importance to speaking and new words. So I like to learn here.

On the way to the classroom, beautiful scenery went in my sight. Both sides of the road stood plenty of trees, green and tall. When raising my head, I got a view of many lovely birds flying freely in the blue sky. Then I was lost in thought.

I’ve never been in such a hurry! In the afternoon we acted. We watched to a short play for three times and

the teacher asked us to act. It was a little difficult, because we couldn’t remember all the sentences by watching the play for three times. We tried to remember

something. Though the play had been changed a little, it was still very good we all acted very well. The teacher also gave some group prizes. Though my group hadn’t hot once, I didn’t mind.

My Hometown

My hometown is very big. I am going to show you around my hometown.

First, here is my house. I live in a small house, we have a garden. My mother grows vegetables and flowers in the garden.

Outside the garden the garden is a bus stop. It takes about twenty minutes to get to the nearest town. There are lots of buildings there. There is a shopping mall, a youth center and a cinema. There is also a park near the center of the town. My favorite place is the youth center. I often go there with my friends after school. There are lots of things to do there and I am always busy.

I like going into town on my bicycle. The town is near the sea. I sometimes go swimming in summer when it’s warm and sunny. There is not much pollution in the town because cars cannot go into the center of the town.

I have lots of friends here: I think it’s a wonderful place to live in. I hope you can come and visit it soon.

On Sunday we had singing contest. I am one of the contesants. My song’s name is One Love. It’s a song of Blue, a British music group. I went into the “Final Seven”. Every now and then, people complain they just miss the chance again and again. They may feel depressed for a long time, thinking luck will never bless them.

However, as a matter of fact, chances just exist around us. It’s no use waiting for the next chance or regretting having missed a chance. It is not whether there still are chances for you but your being ready for the chances which are on the way that really matters. Therefore, we should make full use of time. Only in this way can we keep calm when facing difficulties. And then we can catch the chance and enjoy the happiness it brings.
