Good morning。Horable

chairman,distinguished dear fellow

debaters, ladies and gentleman.our topic is “can money buy happiness” We firmly believe that money can buy

happiness. .i am going to address our arguments . Karl Marx defined that happiness is a state which make your psychological desire satisfied. What can make you satisfied? We all know that economic basis is the sufficient guarantee of satisfication.

Marx said that superstructure

['sju:pə,strʌktʃə] condition is up to the economy level. As the foregoing everlast theory

reveals, It is transparent that money can buy happiness.

There is a possibility that some people claim that money isn’t everything, but without money all of us can achieve nothing. When you are sick, but have no money to see a doctor, will you be happy ?when you are hungry ,but have no money to

buy delicious food ,will you be happy ?(可以等待观众回答后再继续问)when you are admitted to the university which you dream of , but have no money to go to school, will you be happy ? no ,you will feel depressed and desperate for life ,you will feel hopeless and the unfair of society. You will feel in the dark and cant see the light at the tunnel. So we do affirm that money can buy happiness.

1,when children go shopping with their parents ,they see a toy and they want it very much .at this condition,if their parents don’t buy it for them ,children will be very sad and cry ;but if their parents use their money to buy it for them ,children will be very happy and smile brightly, that is to say ,money can buy

happiness ,so ,how can you explain this phenomenon ?

2,Marx said that superstructure condition is up to the economy level,do you agree?

如果对方辩友回答“yes”,就马上说“dear fellow debater, thank you for admitting and supporting our point.:”(谢谢我亲爱的的对方辩友支持我方观点)

point is accepted widely in the world and chairman mao has been

supporting this point ,you say don’t agree ,are you criticizing our great

就这样回答,让对方哑口无言:you say money is the source of evil .as we all

know that our country is developing economy largely and publish many

policies to lead people to a way of more money ,according to your

logic ,do you mean that our leaders of the country are leading us to a way of evil ?(你说钱是万恶之源。

回答“we say that money can buy happiness ,but it don’t mean money

can money buy happiness演讲篇四:can money buy happiness

So I want to talk today about money and happiness, which are two things that a lot of us spend a lot of our time thinking about, either trying to earn them or trying to increase them. And a lot of us resonate with this phrase. So we see it in religions and self-help books, that money can't buy happiness. And I want to suggest today that, in fact, that's wrong. (Laughter) I'm at a business school, so that's what we do. So that's wrong, and, in fact, if you think that, you're actually just not spending it right. So that instead of spending it the way you usually spend it, maybe if you spent it differently, that might work a little bit better. And before I tell you the ways that you can spend it that will make you happier, let's think about the ways we usually spend it that don't, in fact, make us happier. We had a little natural experiment. So CNN, a little while ago, wrote this interesting article on what happens to people when they win the lottery. It turns out people think when they win the lottery their lives are going to be amazing. This article's about how their lives get ruined. So what happens when people win the lottery is, number one, they spend all the money and go into debt, and number two, all of their friends and everyone they've ever met find them and bug them for money. And it ruins their social relationships, in fact. So they have more debt and worse friendships than they had before they won the lottery. What was interesting about the article was people started commenting on the article, readers of the thing. And instead of talking about how it had made them realize that money doesn't lead to happiness, everyone instantly started saying, "You know what I would do if I won the lottery ... ?" and fantasizing about what they'd do. And here's just two of the ones we saw that are just really interesting to think about. One person wrote in, "When I win, I'm going to buy my own little mountain and have a little house on top." (Laughter) And another person wrote, "I would fill a big bathtub with money and get in the tub while smoking a big fat cigar and sipping a glass of champagne." This is even worse now: "Then I'd have a picture taken and dozens of glossies made. Anyone begging for money or trying to extort from me would receive a copy of the picture and nothing else." (Laughter) And so many of the comments were exactly of this type, where people got money and, in fact, it made them antisocial. So I told you that it ruins people's lives and that their friends bug them. It also, money often makes us feel very selfish and we do things only for ourselves. Well maybe the reason that money doesn't make us happy is that we're always spending it on the wrong things, and in particular, that we're always spending it on ourselves. And we thought, I wonder what would happen if we made people spend more of their money on other people. So instead of being antisocial with your money, what if you were a little more prosocial with your money? And we thought, let's make people do it and see what happens. So let's have some people do what they usually do and spend money on themselves, and let's make some people give money away, and measure their happiness and see if, in fact, they get happier. So the first way that we did this. On one Vancouver morning, we went out on the campus at University of British Columbia and we approached people and said, "Do you want to be in an

experiment?" They said, "Yes." We asked them how happy they were, and then we gave them an envelope. And one of the envelopes had things in it that said, "By 5:00 pm today, spend this money on yourself." So we gave some examples of what you could spend it on. Other people, in the morning, got a slip of paper that said, "By 5:00 pm today, spend this money on somebody else." Also inside the envelope was money. And we manipulated how much money we gave them. So some people got this slip of paper and five dollars. Some people got this slip of paper and 20 dollars. We let them go about their day. They did whatever they wanted to do. We found out that they did in fact spend it in the way that we asked them to. We called them up at night and asked them, "What'd you spend it on, and how happy do you feel now?" What did they spend it on? Well these are college undergrads, so a lot of what they spent it on for themselves were things like earrings and makeup. One woman said she bought a stuffed animal for her niece. People gave money to homeless people. Huge effect here of Starbucks. (Laughter) So if you give undergraduates five dollars, it looks like coffee to them and they run over to Starbucks and spend it as fast as they can. But some people bought a coffee for themselves, the way they usually would, but other people said that they bought a coffee for somebody else. So the very same purchase, just targeted toward yourself or targeted toward somebody else. What did we find when we called them back at the end of the day? People who spent money on other people got happier. People who spent money on themselves, nothing happened. It didn't make them less happy, it just didn't do much for them. And the other thing we saw is the amount of money doesn't matter that much. So people thought that 20 dollars would be way better than five dollars. In fact, it doesn't matter how much money you spent. What really matters is that you spent it on somebody else rather than on yourself. We see this again and again when we give people money to spend on other people instead of on themselves. Of course, these are undergraduates in Canada -- not the world's most representative population. They're also fairly wealthy and affluent and all these other sorts of things. We wanted to see if this holds true everywhere in the world or just among wealthy countries. So we went, in fact, to Uganda and ran a very similar experiment. So imagine, instead of just people in Canada, we said, "Name the last time you spent money on yourself or other people. Describe it. How happy did it make you?" Or in Uganda, "Name the last time you spent money on yourself or other people and describe that." And then we asked them how happy they are again. And what we see is sort of amazing because there's human universals on what you do with your money and then real cultural differences on what you do as well. So for example, one guy from Uganda says this. He said, "I called a girl I wished to love." They basically went out on a date, and he says at the end that he didn't "achieve" her up till now. Here's a guy from Canada. Very similar thing. "I took my girlfriend out for dinner. We went to a movie, we left early, and then went back to her room for ... " only cake -- just a piece of cake. Human universal -- so you spend money on other people, you're being nice to them. Maybe you have something in mind, maybe

not. But then we see extraordinary differences. So look at these two. This is a woman from Canada. We say, "Name a time you spent money on somebody else." She says, "I bought a present for my mom. I drove to the mall in my car, bought a present, gave it to my mom." Perfectly nice thing to do. It's good to get gifts for people that you know. Compare that to this woman from Uganda. "I was walking and met a long-time friend whose son was sick with malaria. They had no money, they went to a clinic and I gave her this money." This isn't $10,000, it's the local currency. So it's a very small amount of money, in fact. But enormously different motivations here. This is a real medical need, literally a life-saving donation. Above, it's just kind of, I bought a gift for my mother. What we see again though is that the specific way that you spend on other people isn't nearly as important as the fact that you spend on other people in order to make yourself happy, which is really quite important. So you don't have to do amazing things with your money to make yourself happy. You can do small, trivial things and yet still get these benefits from doing this. These are only two countries. We also wanted to go even broader and look at every country in the world if we could to see what the relationship is between money and happiness. We got data from the Gallup Organization, which you know from all the political polls that have been happening lately. They ask people, "Did you donate money to charity recently?" and they ask them, "How happy are you with your life in general?" And we can see what the relationship is between those two things. Are they positively correlated? Giving money makes you happy. Or are they negatively correlated? On this map, green will mean they're positively correlated and red means they're negatively correlated. And you can see, the world is crazily green. So in almost every country in the world where we have this data, people who give money to charity are happier people that people who don't give money to charity. I know you're all looking at that red country in the middle. I would be a jerk and not tell you what it is, but in fact, it's Central African Republic. You can make up stories. Maybe it's different there for some reason or another. Just below that to the right is Rwanda though, which is amazingly green. So almost everywhere we look we see that giving money away makes you happier than keeping it for yourself. What about your work life, which is where we spend all the rest of our time when we're not with the people we know. We decided to infiltrate some companies and do a very similar thing. So these are sales teams in Belgium. They work in teams; they go out and sell to doctors and try to get them to buy drugs. So we can look and see how well they sell things as a function of being a member of a team. Some teams, we give people on the team some money for themselves and say, "Spend it however you want on yourself," just like we did with the undergrads in Canada. But other teams we say, "Here's 15 euro. Spend it on one of your teammates this week. Buy them something as a gift or a present and give it to them. And then we can see, well now we've got teams that spend on themselves and we've got these prosocial teams who we give money to make the team a little bit better. The reason I have a ridiculous pinata there is one of the teams pooled their money

and bought a pinata, and they all got around and smashed the pinata and all the candy fell out and things like that. A very silly, trivial thing to do, but think of the difference on a team that didn't do that at all, that got 15 euro, put it in their pocket, maybe bought themselves a coffee, or teams that had this prosocial experience where they all bonded together to buy something and do a group activity. What we see is that, in fact, the teams that are prosocial sell more stuff than the teams that only got money for themselves. And one way to think about it is for every 15 euro you give people for themselves, they put it in their pocket, they don't do anything different than they did before. You don't get any money from that. You actually lose money because it doesn't motivate them to perform any better. But when you give them 15 euro to spend on their teammates, they do so much better on their teams that you actually get a huge win on investing this kind of money. And I realize that you're probably thinking to yourselves, this is all fine, but there's a context that's incredibly important for public policy and I can't imagine it would work there. And basically that if he doesn't show me that it works here, I don't believe anything he said. And I know what you're all thinking about are dodgeball teams. (Laughter) This was a huge criticism that we got to say, if you can't show it with dodgeball teams, this is all stupid. So we went out and found these dodgeball teams and infiltrated them. And we did the exact same thing as before. So some teams, we give people on the team money, they spend it on themselves. Other teams, we give them money to spend on their dodgeball teammates. The teams that spend money on themselves are just the same winning percentages as they were before. The teams that we give the money to spend on each other, they become different teams and, in fact, they dominate the league by the time they're done. Across all of these different contexts -- your personal life, you work life, even silly things like intramural sports -- we see spending on other people has a bigger return for you than spending on yourself. And so I'll just say, I think if you think money can't buy happiness you're not spending it right. The implication is not you should buy this product instead of that product and that's the way to make yourself happier. It's in fact, that you should stop thinking about which product to buy for yourself and try giving some of it to other people instead. And we luckily have an opportunity for you. DonorsChoose.org is a non-profit for mainly public school teachers in low-income schools. They post projects, so they say, "I want to teach Huckleberry Finn to my class and we don't have the books," or "I want a microscope to teach my students science and we don't have a microscope." You and I can go on and buy it for them. The teacher writes you a thank you note. The kids write you a thank you note. Sometimes they send you pictures of them using the microscope. It's an extraordinary thing. Go to the website and start yourself on the process of thinking, again, less about "How can I spend money on myself?" and more about "If I've got five dollars or 15 dollars, what can I do to benefit other people?" Because ultimately when you do that, you'll find that you'll benefit yourself much more. Thank you. (Applause)

Can money buy happiness? Different people have different opinions. Some think yes, while others hold the opposite. It is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, and live a life of comfort and security. However, it is equally true that lack of money causes great distress. It is a common view that "money is the root of all evil." The pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. In some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable.

So, money does not necessarily mean happiness. It all depends on how it is used. If we make honest and sensible use of money, it can be a stepping-stone to happiness l Although money cannot buy happiness, it can make happiness possible if it is employed sensibly.

can money buy happiness演讲篇七:演讲 happiness

Active happiness---not mere satisfaction or contentment ---often comes suddenly, like an April shower or the unfolding of a bud. Then you discover what kind of wisdom has accompanied it. The grass is greener; bird songs are sweeter; the shortcomings of your friends are more understandable and more forgivable. Happiness is like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your spiritual vision.

Nor are the insights of happiness limited to what is near around you. Unhappy, with your thoughts turned in upon your emotional woes, your vision is cut short as though by a wall. Happy, the wall crumbles.

One can not identify happiness with wealth.

What is happiness? Some people say that it's like the sun, others say that it's a caring expression to themselves. In my opinion, happiness is just like a happy lolipop, simple but filled with sweetness. Red stands for warmth. Green stands for vitality. Yellow stands for the fortune. And blue stands for our wide, pure heart, just like the sea.

It's very easy to get happiness. We just need several honest friends around us. Because of the existence of friends around us, we escape from lonely, and make our life more fantastic. When we feel happy, share with friends, happiness is increasing. When we get hurt, pour to our friends, the pain will decrease. When we make progress, friends will always be proud of you. When we make mistakes, friends will also help you to correct them. When we are ill, we can usually get a light greeting from our friends. When we fall into trouble, friends will try their best to help us. They are all happiness, aren't they? Happiness is not just the money. It's the communication between our friends and

ourselves. Because of the communication, we find our life more interesting. And these

can't exchange from money. Taste your life more every day, you will find that everyone has happiness, just we desire it.

My understanding of happiness

It’s my great pleasure to stand here to present my speech. Today, I’m going to talk about my understanding of happiness.

As you know, in educational circles, Confucius

said that it is wonderful to repeat when learning new things. In the field of physics , Newton was a single man in his life-time, but he own a felicitous life; In the sport world , Kobe Bryant was so cheerful that beat the adversaries.

But for man in the street , it's very easy to get happiness. We just need several honest friends around us. Because of the existence of friends

around us, we escape from lonely, and make our life more fantastic.

It's the

communication between our friends and ourselves. Because of the communication, we find our life more interesting. And these can't exchange from money. Taste your life more every day, you will find that everyone has happiness, just we desire it.

Imagine that you have the chance to enter a house with all the happiness mankind ever had, and all you need to enter are keys for the 3 locks on the front door. In order to possess true “happiness”, you must do whatever you can to find the keys and open the door. What would you use for the keys to “be happily ever after”?

If I ever get the chance burst through the door of happiness, here are my keys.

I would use “love” as my first key. “Love” has the definition of a strong feeling of affection. Love has the power to give a person enormous courage to accomplish nearly everything. Giving or receiving love brings happiness to you also. According to Stephanie Meyer, the author of the Twilight series, love is the best part of any story, in that love promotes a happy life.

The second key is “satisfaction”, the fulfillment of one’s wishes, expectation, or needs, or the pleasure derived from this. Nowadays, with all the high-tech and significant developments going on, people are slowly losing the feeling of being satisfied. When they get what

they want, they often hunger for more and even more. Sometimes dissatisfaction can be helpful when it’s related to achieving your goals, but being unsatisfied all the time can go beyond the limit, and create misery in your life. Fighting against materialism and accepting how perfect everything has been is absolutely a key to a happy life.

believe in yourself, that is Self-confidence.

Confidence is power--the power to attract, persuade, influence, and succeed. Imagine what your life would be like if you had an abundance of self confidence !

Confidence isn't an inherited trait, it' s a learned one. This means that you can have an abun-

dance of self-confidence. Start here, right now.

Confidence starts in the mind. What you think of yourself very much influences the way you feel about yourself. This, in turn, affects the way you speak and act.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

The very first thing you have to do to create abundant self-confidence is to start thinking with confidence. Pay attention to your internal dialogue, and learn to notice when you allow negativity or doubt to control the course of your thinking. Your environment has a tremendous influence on you. The books you read, the people you spend time with, and the music you listen to all influence the way you think and feel about yourself and the world around you.

In a nutshell, your environment can either build up your self-confidence or drag it down. If you're in a situation where you're discouraged, such as an unhealthy relationship or a miserable job, you have to change that situation if you want your self-confidence level to grow.

Create an environment that supports you if your desire to have abundant self-confidence. Spend time with confident people.

Remember those, self-confidence can be yours. Take it!

Life is What We Make It

Are you dissatisfied with today's success? It is the harvest from yesterday's sowing. Do you dream of a golden morrow? You will reap what you are sowing today. We get out of life just what we put into it.

Nature takes on our moods: she laughs with those who laugh and weeps with those who weep. If we rejoice and are glad the very birds sing more sweetly, the woods and streams murmur our song. But if we are sad and sorrowful a sudden gloom falls upon Nature's face; the sun shines, but not in our hearts, the birds sing, but not to us.

The future will be just what we make it. Our purpose will give it its character. One's resolution is one's prophecy. Leave all your discouraging pessimism behind. Do not prophesy evil, but good. Men of hope come to the front.

My topic is "Can money buy happiness".

As we all know, money can buy all the goods in our life, no matter how huge it is. A spaceship, for example, if you really feel your bank account can afford it.

However, when it comes to love, satisfaction, happiness and many other human feelings, it is completely not like this. The result of many recent research can support my point. They said that, though people received far more money than ever, their standard for happiness also rised. That means, if you had one yuan, a car might be your dream, but if you had one million, you might consider owning a space trip. So when people always hope for those they can not afford, they will push themselves to an unhappy situation.

Anyhow, money equal wealthy in life but not happiness in mind. Only by changing our attitude to money and enjoying every day, can we obtain a truely happy future!

Blue Planet

We all have a common home. She provides us with enough food, enough water and enough living room. We get everything from the nature to live better, but we donnot do anything to protect her. How the air is polluted; the earth is poisoned; water is unsafe to drink and rubbish is burying the civilization that man owns.

Our environment is being polluted faster than nature and man's present efforts can prevent. Time is bringing us more people, and more people will bring us more industry. So many trees will be cut down, and more large cities will be set up. Lots of waste material, in return, is produced and harms the environment. So some experts declare that the balance of nature is being upset, so that the very survival of man is in danger.

How can we solve this problem? The answer is that we must control the speed of growing people, forbid everyone to cut down trees and pour waste water into rivers and so on.

If we achieve this, the environment will turn very clean, and our future will be full of happiness.

How to Grow Happiness

Step one:

Plant yourself deep in a bed of faith, and pack it down solid and tight. Drench daily with positive thinking, and keep saturated just right. Mulch often with forgivenss, for this will help you grow. Quickly remove any seeds of worry, for they will soon germinate, and keep out the weeds of despair. Nourish disappointments with hope whenever it is

neeeded, and always stay cool and shaded when you feel irritated or heated. Trim away guilt or depression, for they create decay, and cultivate with happy memories as often as every day.

Step two:

Harvest the lessons of the past; just dig, pick, and hoe. And nurture the roots of the present, for now is when you

flourish and grow. Start planting for the future; set your goals in a row. Spade the bed well for all your dreams to grow.

Step three:

Remember that grief is a natural predator, so learn to tolerate some damage. Protect your garden with daily prayers, for this will help you manage. Bury the criticism and complaining, for they are injurious pests. Sow the seed of love wherever you may go--for joy, love, and laughter are surely bound to grow. Although the thorns of life may be here to stay, just sprout a smile along the way...and be thankful for what you have today!

Good morning, dear teacher and my friends.

it‘s a very intresting topic today.

I think my Dad was a hero for me when I was a young child. We'd go fishing, walks, and other fun things for a kid. Every child has a good and great father, and so do I. My dad played a very important role in my daily life`````exactly speaking, in my past 16 years.

My father always stands in the center of my life, from past till now and possibly in the future.

My family was rather poor when I was in my childhood. We didn't have our own house and had to live in a shabby, small room rented from my father's factory. The room was so small that there was little space for people to walk. I didn't have my own bed and had to sleep with my parents. This is terrible both for my parents and me.

But father made this all different!he works very hard on his own business, now we have our own 2 housese, surly,I have my own room.and he take our family so much happiness, richer and richer.

When I was little, I did everything with my dad. You could always find me sitting on his knee or walking and doing everything with him. Every night he would read me a bed time story and make the voices of each character.

I learnt a lot from my daddy. I learnt to never take things to seriously and to always smile.

Like many other fathers, my dad and I also has generation gap. He is not good at or even can‘t work the computer. So when I sitting at the computer desk,he will say something like ‗you should pay more attention to your study‘, ‗don‘t waste time on the computer games‘ , ‗it will be bad for your eyes‘ and so on. How can I- a computer fan – reduce time on computer? So I continue studying and playing on it

Years pasted, my father is over 45 now. It is time for me to look after him and I am sure I will do and we will live an even better life. and i will say,i really love you dad, cause you are the hero in my mind.

Thank you so much!

Change the world? Change Ourselves

Good evening, honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen.

It‘s my great pleasure to stand here to present my speech—Change the World, Change Ourselves.

It‘s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while chinese traditional

festivals are being somewhat neglected. Not long before about 10 Doctors in Beijing university and Qinghua unversity announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture.

Frankly speaking, I don‘t quite agree with them.Indeed, we should never neglect or even discard our traditonal

festivals as China boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples). But why can‘t we absorb the

meaningful western holidays and culture.

There are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in China. On the one hand, some of the

western holidays which we Chinese don‘t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as Father‘s Day and April Fool‘s Day etc. On the other hand, the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in China. Overwhelmed by such a trend,Chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.

With the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and

nations becomes faster and more and more important. We are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the earth. The only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? The answer is definitely no. What we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate Chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. Only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. Only by

educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our ancesters left for us.

At last I‘d like to share a famous saying of Gandhi with all of you ,that is:If you want to change the world, then you must change yourself first.‖

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I am very glad to stand here to have my speech.

Global Citizenship begins at home. Do you know what is the connotation of the Global Citizenship ? To be honest I don‘t understand the exactly meaning of the sentence ,so only can I explain it simply .Global Citizenship ,in my

opinion ,is not something in word only ,but a kind of responsibility and undertaking ,a way of behaving and thinking .So Global citizenship begins at home ,with a commitment to live responsibility ,to regard all human begins as fellow citizens ,and to be proactive in seeking the common good.

For us university students ,usually we are busy with exams or focusing on the incidents in daily life .We hardly pay attention to the global issues. However , as university students ,we should take the responsibility to think about them ,think about the life around us.

The world develops quickly, but it wandered from the path it should be. Peace and development have become essential issues.

Peace lays a foundation to development. But because of the development, social problems and environmental problems have become serious global problems. Over-population makes us ask for more resources from the limited ones. It causes natural resources fearfully scarce. If we keep on doing so, we will of course lose our reliable living space at last.

Apart from the environment we had broke at home ,we Chinese also have no sense to protect it when traveling abroad. Therefore Chinese travelers‘ behaviors in foreign countries have made the native intolerable .And the

foreigners have the bad influence about our country.

So I think the sentence of Global Citizenship begins at home means that everyone should be the global

citizen ,should take the responsibility to protect our mother land .Global citizenship begins at home ,let we do it

through the children and the parents ,through the school and the society, thou the government .There‘s an old saying :

Action speaks louder than words. Let‘s act now . Thank you all attention.

1 . Topic:Why is Honesty Important in a Relationship?

"I swear to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Why is honesty important in a relationship? This is Dr. Paul, author of Boomer Girls, A Boomer Woman's Guide to Men and Dating, a nationwide talk show host, and have I got news for you. It's better to clear the air in the beginning than to have questions after the fact. Honesty in a

relationship is critical to that relationships success. Hello, something you knew before right. Well let me tell you about honest in a relationship. If something occurs don't give a half answer up front. You give a full disclosure answer, so that person, the other person; be it talking to the male or talking to the female gets the full picture. It's easier for them to handle it that way in one lump sum than to string it out, "Oh yeah well I forgot to tell you about this issue in that situation. I forgot to tell you about that issue in this situation." Then guess what you are never going to be believable, so believeableness is critical in the honesty. In the event that something occurs and this question comes up and the other wants to know. The lady wants to know what's going on or the man wants to know what's going on. Give it the full picture, because if you do not your credibility is going to go down to zero. Your stock will go down. Not unlike the stock market. You will tank. That's what Dr. Paul has to say about this. This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today be your realities of tomorrow."

can money buy happiness演讲篇九:money can buy love in CN奥巴马英语演讲稿

BEIJING — Money really can buy you love in China — or at least that seems to be a common belief in this increasingly materialistic country.

Many personal stories seem to confirm that the ideal mate is the one who can deliver a home and a car, among other things; sentiment is secondary.

However widespread this mercantilist spirit, not everyone thinks it is a good thing. A spate of Chinese films, plays and television shows have raised the question: What is love in an age of breakneck economic growth?

Many Chinese were shocked this year when a female contestant on a popular TV dating show, “If You Are the One,” announced: “I‟d rather cry in a BMW than smile on a bicycle.” But others insisted that the contestant, Ma Nuo, now popularly known as “the BMW woman,” was merely expressing a social reality.

Rocketing property prices in recent years have contributed to such feelings, with many people in Beijing and other cities accepting the idea that a woman will pursue a relationship with a man only if he already owns an apartment.

Feng Yuan, a 26-year-old who works in a government education company, tried to set up a friend with a man she thought suitable.

“When she heard he didn‟t own an apartment, she refused even to meet him,” recalled Ms. Feng. “She said, „What‟s the point? Without an apartment, love isn‟t possible.”‟

Fueling these attitudes is a drumbeat of fear. After three decades of fast-paced, uneven economic growth, there is enormous anxiety among those who feel they are being left behind, lacking the opportunities and contacts to make big money while all around them others prosper and prices soar.

The new creed can be hard, as a 26-year-old cultural events organizer learned.

The man, who asked for anonymity to protect his privacy, earns about 4,000 renminbi, or $600, a month, making even a modest apartment in an unfashionable district of Beijing unaffordable. These homes can cost about $3,000 per square meter, or about $280 per square foot. Housing inflation is severe. Ten years ago, a similar apartment cost about $345 per square meter.

Instead, he tried to impress his girlfriend of three years by saving for a year to buy an 3. The newer iPhone 4 — a hot status symbol — had just gone on sale. But at about $900, that was beyond his means.

The phone was not enough. Last week, she left him, citing pressure from her parents to find a richer mate.

He is heartbroken, believing, despite all, that his girlfriend truly loved him. “Why else did she live with me for three years?” — albeit in a rented apartment. Yet, he is philosophical, too.

“I understand her situation and the pressure from her family,” he said. “I also understand that her parents want their daughter to find someone who can give her a better life.”

The only way to find love, he said, is to become rich. “The most important thing for me now, is to work and earn a living.” he said. “I need to grow stronger, support myself and my parents, and then my future girlfriend can have a good life.”

Such calculations have their critics. The hard-nosed attitude of Ms. Ma, the BMW woman, earned her a gentle reprimand recently from the film director Zhang Yimou. In an interview in The South China Morning Post, a Hong Kong newspaper, he urged young people to re-examine their values. “I don‟t think economic advancement and our yearning for love are mutually exclusive,” he said. Mr. Zhang, who turns 59 on Sunday, represents an older generation that remembers the more egalitarian, if also poorer and more politically repressive, Maoist era, before the economic changes that unleashed the scramble for material advancement.

His latest film, “Under the Hawthorn Tree,” depicts the innocent love between a teacher, Jing Qiu, and a geologist, Lao San. Set in 1975 toward the end of the Cultural Revolution, and without a BMW in sight, the film shows the teacher spending quite a lot of time smiling on her sweetheart‟s bicycle. Love is the thing, it concludes.

Other productions have joined the debate.

“Fight the Landlord,” a play by Sun Yue that premiered in Shanghai last month, is another ringing defense of love in an age of materialism.

A character known as B, grilled by a potential mother-in-law about her very ordinary income, yells: “Don‟t think that because I have nothing to be proud of you can insult and destroy me!”

“I have my dignity and pride,” B says, “and I don‟t want to turn love, which I value so much, into something vulgar and pale!”

A new film, “Color Me Love,” celebrates the cult of materialism but also comes down, somewhat, on the side of love. Modeled on “The Devil Wears Prada,” and with product placement for Hermès, Versace and Diesel, it follows poor but gorgeous Fei as she arrives in Beijing to intern at a fashion magazine.

“Fei, one day you‟ll understand,” Zoe, her glamorous editor, cautions her. “Nothing is as important as the person you‟ll spend the rest of your life with.”

A tumultuous courtship with a wacky artist named Yihong ends up with the couple united in New York. A closing shot shows her in his arms, a diamond on her finger. The real fantasy, perhaps, is love plus money.

Ms. Feng, who had failed to find a match for her apartmentless friend, said the demands that many Chinese women make on prospective mates reflected weakness, not power. Lower in status, they fear not getting what they want in life, and look to men to provide it.

“Women are very dependent,” she said. “I blame them. Why can‟t they work hard and buy a house together with their man? But very few women today think like that.”

Few Chinese men do either, reinforcing the rules of the game. For the 26-year-old events organizer, losing his love to money was justifiable.

“We didn‟t need to waste time on a relationship that was doomed to vanish,” he said.

Can Money Buy Happiness 2006-9-18 15:39:43 Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Can Money Buy Happiness? You should write no less than 100 words and you should base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below: 1. 也有人认为金钱是万恶之源(root of all evil) 3.我的看法 Can Money Buy Happiness? Can money buy happiness? Various people have various answers. Some people think that money is the source of happiness. With money, one can buy whatever he enjoys. With money, one can do whatever he likes. So, in their minds, money can bring comfort, security, and so on. Money, as they think, is the source of happiness. But there are still a lot of others who think that money is the root of all evil. Money drives people to steal, to rob, and to break the law. A lot of people became criminals just because they were in search of money. And in the Western countries, there is nothing that can't be bought by money. Many people lose their own lives when hunting it. I think that money is essential to life and we cannot do without money. But even though money is necessary to life, it can't buy happiness. Happiness is not something that can be measured by money. It is a state of mind. One can have plenty of money, with which he can buy whatever he wants, and at the same time he is not happy because he is never satisfied or he is troubled by various kinds of problems. Therefore, although money is necessary for a happy life, it can't buy happiness. Can Money Buy Happiness?1. Different people have diffhrent views on money. It is held that money is the source of happiness. But it is also held that money is the root of evil. Those who hold the first opinion think that with money one can enjoy everything luxurious in the world; one can eat delicacies and drink good wine, can buy a luxurious house or car, and can travel around the world. In contrast, those who hold the second view think that with money some people visit prostitutes and abuse drug, others bribe government officials, manipulate an election or the parliament, even form terrorist organizations and launch unjust wars.In my opinion, money is something but not everything. Not every rich person is happy, nor is every poor person unhappy. Besides, I think money itself is neither good nor bad. It is the person who uses money that can be regarded as good or bad. Money can be used to build a country but it can also be used to destroy a country. Therefore, money itself has nothing to do with happiness or evil.

Is Money All-powerful? As we know, most of the material things in our daily life have to be bought with money. But money is not all-powerful. There are many things which money cannot buy, such as time. There are twenty-four hours in a day. Sometimes when we are very happy, we wish that the period of happiness would last longer. But no matter what we do, or how much money we are willing to pay, we cannot make a day last longer than twenty-four hours. On the other hand, when we are unhappy, money cannot make the unhappy time pass away more quickly, nor can it bring us a day without sadness and worries. We may be rich, but our money can't bring back our lost time. As the saying goes, “Time past cannot be called back.”Here we can say very clearly that money can buy a lot of things, but never time. So money, after all, is not all-powerful.Thank you.My View on MoneyMoney is regarded by some people as the most importent thing in life. It is even regarded as the symbol of wealth and social position. For example, with plenty of money a man can do whatever he wants to. He can afford expensive cars and luxurious houses, and he can travel around the world and visit as many interesting places as he wants to. In their eyes, money is everything in life.In my opinion, money can both benefit people and do harm to them. On the one hand, we can't deny that money is useful. We need money to buy food, buy a house or pay our education cost. Money can make us live more comfortably. For example, with more money, we can help others and take part in more social activities and receive a good education, thus increasing our knowledge and developing our skills. On the other hand, some people try to get money by dishonest means, for example, they often cheat and gemble, even rob and kill people. Sooner or later, they will be punished by the law. Money can bring them nothing but misery. In addition, money can not buy everything, For instance, no matter how much money one hast he can not buy good health, happiness or friendship, Although money is useful in many ways, there are still a lot of things that money can't buy in the world. In addition, money can also do harm to us. If a person really thinks of mone

y as everything and pays his attention only to money, he will lose his friends, or even the care and warmth from his family. Thus, it brings him only loneliness.MoneyMoney is what everybody desires. It can be used to buy food, clothes, books, bicycle, furniture and many other things people need or want.Money is considered by many people as the most important hing in life. With money, they can go wherever they please and do whatever they want. With money, they can buy a fine house to live in, fashionable clothes to put on, and a nice bicycle to ride. And with money, they can employ attendants to serve them. In a word, money can make people comfortuble and bring them happiness. However, money is also the source of all crimes and brings them misery. Since rnoney is so tempting, quite a few people are attracted by it and begin to go astray. By hook or by crook, they try to make money. To get more money, they gamble, swindle, steal, rob or do many other evil things, for "money makes the mare go". As a result, money leads them to jail or even to the execution grounds.Of coarse money is useful and desirable, yet we should make money in proper way and spend our money on proper things. Time Doesn't Definitely Mean MoneyAs a popular saying goes, "Time is money." But does time definitely mean money? I don't think so. First of all, time is more precious than money. When money is spent, you can earn it back if you want to. However, when time is gone, it will never come back. To some extent, time is priceless. Second, not all time can be turned into money in the end. Some persons are idling all the time. Their time is just for wasting, not for earning money. They will end in nothing at last. So be sure to remember that time can be turned into money only with hard work involved in it.The Value of TimeNobody knows what time is like, for we cannot see it, nor can we touch it. Time is abstract, which we can only imagine in our mind. But we do know that time passes very quickly. Some students, however, do not know the value of time, nor do they know how to make the best use of it, for they waste it in going to films, playing games and doing other useless things. Why do we go to school early in the morning? Why do trains run so fast? Why do most people prefer taking buses instead of walking? The answer is very simple: we wish to save time because time is precious.Today we are living in the twentieth ce

ntury. We know that time is life. When a person dies, his time has ended.Since life is short, we must devote our time and energy to our studies so that we may be able to serve our country and the people. But since time is invisible, we often neglect it. Lazinss. is the thief of time, for lasiness not only brings us a lot of harm, it also brings us failure. If it is necessary for us to do some work today, let us do it today and not leave it until tomorrow. Remember that time is more valuable than money.[点评]作者强调了时间的珍贵性,并劝告每个人应尽可能多地利用时间多做些事情,不要养成懒惰的习惯。 The Value of Time 点击数: 更新时间:2006-4-23 21:17:45 As a popular saying goes, "Time is money. "In fact, time is more precious than money. When money is spent, you can earn it back if you want to. However, when time is gone, it will never come back.As the pace of modern life continues to accelerate ,the time at our disposal is quite limited. But there are a lot of things to be done in our lives. We should make full use of our time to fulfil what is useful to us. For instance, as students we should devote most of our time to our academic studies. In this way we can acquire new knowledge and skill necessary for our future carrier. In my opinion, wasting time means wasting our valuable life. But many of us don't realize this .They think time is inexhaustable. I'm not in favor of such of a view .Hence ,my conclusion is that we should never put off what can be today until tomorrow.
