youth

youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life .

youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. this often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . nobody grows old merely by a number of years . we grow old by deserting our ideals.

years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust . whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being 's heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living . in the center of your heart and my heart there's a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .

when the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.

for being here. what i am going to talk about today is how to speak good english. english may be the most important factor in deciding which countries are leaders

in the future. the language of the most advanced management and technology is

undoubtedly english. being able to absorb this information is really the key to the

new century. in the 21century. we can’t go there and speak our own language because

nobody is going to learn it in order to understand us. our asian rival, india, has surged ahead of other developing

countries in information technology because of its superior english skills. unless we are able to master english, we will not be able to get our population

to use it and take advantage of the new economy. there is an urgent need to have a

workforce which is proficient in the language in view of the information technology

onslaught.

second, about learning english, i think laying a strong foundation is the first

and most important step. in other words, you should read and speak english every day.

memorizing new words and phrases is also helpful. of course, learning english takes

some time, so don’t be impatient. remember, rome wasn’t built in a day. and then

since english is not our native tongue, we must develop the muscles of your speech

organs to produce unfamiliar sounds. when you read, read as loudly as possible, as

clearly as possible and as quickly as possible. tongue muscles’ training is of

importance in learning any foreign language. every time you move your mouth, your memory will deepen, your muscles will

2．heavy schoolwork【课业繁重】 in my opinion, the schoolwork now being assigned to high school students is too

heavy. while it is true that students need to study, they need other things as well

if they are to grow into healthy and well-rounded adults. high should be allowed more

time for play. playing is not wasting time, as some think. it gives them physical

exercise, and also exercise their imagination. which tends to be stifled by too much

study. finally, the pressure put on high school students by excessive schoolwork can

cause serious stress, which is unhealthy physically and mentally. i do not advocate

the elimination of schoolwork. i do think, however, that a reduction of the current heavy load would be beneficial to students and to the

society as a whole.

我认为目前高中生的课业实在太重了，虽然说学生的确应当念书，但是要想长大成为健

全的人，他门还需要一些其它的东西，所以应该给高中生较多从事娱乐的时间。娱乐并不如

某些人所想的，是在浪费时间，它可以让学生锻炼身体，发挥被繁重课业扼杀的想象力。此

外，繁重的课业加诸在高中生身上的压力可能引起严重的情绪紧张，这对身心都有害。我并

3．time【时间】

lost time is never found again. this is something which i learned very clearly

last semester. i spent so much time fooling around that my grades began to suffer.

i finally realized that something had to be done. it was time for a change. now i have a new plan for using my time wisely. i have set my alarm clock ahead

half an hour. this will give me a head start on the day. i have also decided to keep

a log of what i do and when i do it. looking back on what i’ve done will give me

some ideas on how to reorganize my time. 时光一去不复返，这是我上学期清楚学到

动，但是我很重视学校的体育课。在操场上慢跑几圈，无疑地可以减轻一天的压力。在周末

时，我都去看早场电影，享受视觉飨宴。如此一来，我将有如再生般的充沛活力，去面对下

5．my first job【我的第一份工作】 my first job was at a cramming school. it was three years ago when i just graduated

from junior high school and finished the entrance examination. since i had nothing to do that summer, i decided to find a job,

eight hours a day, six days a week. the work was not difficult nor heavy to me and

we are the world ,we are the future

someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. i don’t know who wrote these words, but i’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. we are all in the position of the farmers. if we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. if we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.

we are young. “how to spend the youth?” it is a meaningful question. to answer it, first i have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. it’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. it’s the matter of the will. it’s the freshness of the deep spring of life.

a poet said “to see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. several days ago, i had a chance to listen to a lecture. i learnt a lot there. i’d like to share it with all of you. let’s show our right palms. we can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. i have a short line of life. what about yours? i wondered whether we could see our future in this way. well, let’s make a fist. where is our future? where is our love, career, and life? tell me.yeah, it is in our hands. it is held in ourselves.

we all want the future to be better than the past. but the future can go better itself. don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. from the past, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. we’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.

终于，在众人的努力下，那张纸乖乖地就范了。那个追到纸的人，得意地将战利品递给女孩。女孩优雅地向大家道谢，然后拿着纸在众目睽睽之下走到一个垃圾筒跟前，将它塞了进去，回过身，她微笑着对大家说：好了，现在它终于去了它该去的地方。

故事讲到这里，也许你会诧异于女孩的举动，也许你会怀疑于故事的真实。好了，先放下这些都不说，同学们，让我们一同回忆：在我们的周围，在我们的身边，是否有垃圾从同学的手中滑落，成为路面上醒目的感叹号？是否有随手丢弃的塑料袋在风中“翩翩起舞”？是否会在厕所洁白的墙壁上看到几个刺眼的脚印？

同样的，在你的周围，是否有人大声叫嚷，让你的耳膜阵阵发聋？是否有人口出脏话，污言秽语，招来人们鄙视的目光？是否有人唏嘘起哄，吹口哨，叫人不可思议，令人费解？

当发生这一切的时候，在它们主人的身上其实是丢掉了一样东西，那就是文明——几千年来中华民族宝贵的精神财富。这财富世代相传，它应该在你的身边：她是路上相遇时的微笑；是同学有困难时的热情帮助；是平时与人相处时的亲切与关怀；是不小心撞到对方时一声“对不起”；是自觉将垃圾放进垃圾箱的举动；是看到有人随地吐痰、乱抛乱扔时的主动制止；是走廊内的轻声慢步；是宿舍里暖融融的家的感觉。它是一种品质，一种修养，一种受人尊敬的并被大家广泛推崇的行为。

绿树红花，朗朗的读书声，暖人的话语，整洁的仪表，那是一幅美丽的画面。所以当有人离文明远去的时候，请你温馨地提醒他：你掉了一样东西。

大家好，我今天给大家讲一个故事叫：一面镜子

一个年轻人正值人生巅峰时却被查出患了白血病，无边无际的绝望一下子笼罩了他的心，他觉得生活已经没有任何意义了，拒绝接受任何治疗。

一个深秋的午后，他从医院里逃出来，漫无目的地在街上游荡。忽然，一阵略带嘶哑又异常豪迈的乐曲吸引了他。不远处，一位双目失明的老人正把弄着一件磨得发亮的乐器，向着寥落的人流动情地弹奏着。还有一点引人注目的是，盲人的怀中挂着一面镜子！

年轻人好奇地上前，趁盲人一曲弹奏完毕时问道：“对不起，打扰了，请问这镜子是你的吗？”

“是的，我的乐器和镜子是我的两件宝贝！音乐是世界上最美好的东西，我常常靠这个自娱自乐，可以感到生活是多么的美好”

“可这面镜子对你有什么意义呢？”他迫不及待地问。

盲人微微一笑，说：“我希望有一天出现奇迹，并且也相信有朝一日我能用这面镜子看见自己的脸，因此不管到哪儿，不管什么时候我都带着它。”

白血病患者的心一下子被震撼了：一个盲人尚且如此热爱生活，而我他突然彻悟了，又坦然地回到医院接受治疗，尽管每次化疗他都会感受到死去活来的痛楚，但从那以后他再也没有逃跑过。

他坚强地忍受痛苦的治疗，终于出现了奇迹，他恢复了健康。从此，他也拥有了人生弥足珍贵的两件宝贝：积极乐观的心态和屹立不倒的信念。

想把握好自己的人生和命运的人，一定要有乐观和坚强的品质，因为乐观和坚强是掌管人生航向的舵手，是把握命运之船的动力桨。
