汪正英是新疆阿克苏公路局的一名工作人员，1993年退休后，他开始承包一些小的修路建桥工程。1998年他承包的工程款不但要不回来，还发生了车祸，让他落下残疾，欠下了50万元的外债。面对众多债务人的质问，他说：“不管到什么时候，只要我在，钱就会还给大家，人不能没有良心。”于是，带着这份沉甸甸的承诺，近60岁的汪正英开始了自己漫长的还款之路。
