Many children act in TV shows. They work several hours every day, so they can not go to regular school. How do they get an education?

In Hollywood, many TV shows are made. About forty teachers give lessons to the children in the shows. They teach wherever their pupils are working. The teachers’ job is very important. They are responsible(负责) for making sure that the children work only the permitted(允许) hours each week. They are also responsible for making sure that children learn the required subjects. They make sure, too, that the children get enough rest and play, along with their education.

Children actors are required to attend classes twenty hours each week. California law says they must be taught from September to June. If they do not make much progress in school, they are not permitted to continue working in TV shows. TV children are usually good pupils, and most of their teachers like this special kind of work. Their classes are held in some wonderful places. Sometimes the “classroom” is a Mississippi riverboat, and sometimes it is the inside of a spaceship. Once a king got two nice falcons(猎鹰)from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train then to fly.

After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was staying on the branch(树枝) of a tree quietly, just keeping still.

There is little doubt that house cat first developed naturally from ancient wild cats. The cleverest relative is the America wild cat which still lives in Africa today. This is understandable because the first house cats came from Africa.

Cats first started to live around people in Egypt about 6,000~7,000 years ago. From Egypt, cats started to move around the world. This is about the same time that Egyptians began storing grain(谷物）in buildings. Scientists used to believe that people cats to catch mice and protect the grain. Lesson 1: Ways of creative thinking are needed

Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg both dropped out of college. They prefer to teach themselves because they like to develop their own ways of thinking. They think standard ways of teaching might stop people from being creative and having new ideas.

Lesson 2: The answer might not be what you expect

Find your answers from facts — not start with an expectation of what you will find. Stephen Jacobsen from Northwestern University believed what he was taught: that water on Earth came from icy comets(彗星) or planets which hit into Earth.

However, by studying a special rock, he discovered that it acts like a sponge(海绵). This suggests that Earth's water may have come from inside, driven to the surface to form the oceans, by geological activity.

“I had a pretty hard time making others believe it,” he said. “But thinking about the fact that you may the first person to see something for the first time doesn’t happen very often. When it does, it’s amazing.” Years of planning went into a recent achievement in space travel. The European Space Agency’s “Philae”, a robot landing craft, met up with Comet 67P, which is 480 million kilometers away. The trip from Earth by “Philae” had taken ten years!

The scientists had no idea what the surface of the comet would be like. If the landing failed, it would be impossible to get information from the spacecraft. Twenty years of work would have been wasted.

When “Philae” tried to land, it bounced(弹起) away from the comet’s icy surface twice. Luckily, however, “Philae” landed successfully and began sending information back to Earth.

Teenager Jake Deham was skiing(滑雪) with his family in the USA when he fell over and lost one of his skis. His family didn’t know that he had a problem. They kept on skiing. When they got to the foot of the mountain, there was no sign of Jake.

Jake couldn’t find his ski anywhere. In the end, he decided to take off his other ski and walk down the mountain. But he couldn’t work out the right way to go.

It was now getting dark and he was a long way from any place of safety. He knew that he might die that night in the cold temperatures. But Jake kept calm(镇定). At home, Jake watched a lot of programmes about living in difficult situations. He remembered the advice from these programmes and knew that he should build a hole in the snow.
