Because of dreams, we dare to face different difficulties and stress; because of dreams, we can stand utmost pains and sufferings; because of dreams, we never change our positive attitudes towards life.

After reading J. D. Salinger’s novel The Catcher in the Rye, I fully perceive the importance, meaning and power of dreams. The Catcher in the Rye mainly tells a 16-year-old middle school boy-Holden’s life in New York City. At first, Holden is not good at study, and he is expelled from the school for many times. In the teachers and parents’ view, he may be a bad boy who is always anxious, traitorous, crazy, degenerate and demoralized, and lives an immoral and unexamined life. He is addicted in smoking, drinking and makes no progress. However, he has a quite good understanding of the fact of capitalist society, which is filled with hypocrisy, vanity, folly and philistinism. Holden has a simple and pure dream that he wants to be a catcher in the rye, and just this dream that prevents him from being degenerate, brings him some hopes and confidence, and finally changed his life. From this point, we can find the profound effects of dreams on one’s life.

Without his pure dream, Holden may condescend to the end. It is his simple faith that enables him to survive in the capitalist society. Judging from my own experiences, there also many people live a life like Holden’s. They gradually forget their grand ideals, and waste time every day. Instead of study, they are addicted in playing computer games, smoking, drinking. Some always goes to cybercafés, ballrooms, pubs and some even breaks the law. The most important thing is to have faith in our own judgment, and catch the star that twinkles in our hearts, and it will lead us to success. Then take pride in the accomplishments because they are stepping-stones to our dreams. Understand that we may make mistakes, but do not let them discourage us. Value our capabilities and talents for they are what make us truly unique, and we may acquire a lot through hard work and determination. The journey of the dreamer is a belief in ourselves and it forges passion into our characters. The dream becomes a pillar of hopes that we can trust in, lean on and learn from. Therefore, do not let anyone steal our dreams, or try to tell us that they are impossible. If the dreams are big enough, the facts don’t count. Where there is a dream, there is a way! The hero of the story called Holden,he was a middle school student,but he didn’t like studying at all.He was tired of everything in the school. So he was expelled from school for the fourth time.

In the removed that night,Holden left school,but he was afraid to go home.In desperation,Holden lived in a small hotel.However,it was a chaos of hotel,some shady people lived there,here Holden made a lot of stupid things.Later,he and his girlfriend split up. Then Holden to the bar to drink with an old school friend,he got very drunk,he put his head in cold water for a while,just wake up. When he walked out of the pub, be cold wind blows, the hair of his head was frozen.He thought he might die from pneumonia, always can't see his sister, decided to take the plunge and home her farewell. Holden secretly returned home, he said to sister his ideal, he will want to be a catcher in the rye. Later, his parents came back, Holden frighten hide in closet.When his parents went to the bedroom, he quickly slipped out of the house, to a his respected teacher spend the night in the home. Holden didn't want to go home, decided to go to the west to make a living, but he wanted to in the face before walked bye sister, so he dated sister to the museum.But his sister, dragging a big suitcase full of her clothes, she must go with Holden to the western.Finally, for sister persuade invalid,

Holden had to give up his plan to the west, then he took her to the zoo.And Holden decided not to run away.He went home shortly he had illness and was sent to a nursing home.

This is a novel about adolescent psychological problems. From the point of subject, like all young men, the hero is a liberal person, but he doesn't handle their own problems, at the same time, he was also confused, he don't know their future.

Perhaps everyone in a teenager have encountered similar problems, when we are at that time we offen not to talk about own confusion,so we may enter a wrong way,bringing harm to myself. I have just finished reading The Catcher in the Rye, written by Jerome David Salinger. To some degree, the book reflects his spirit world. It was the publishment of the book, which was a great hit, which created a famous Jerome, and a group of Holton fans. The entire book tells us a two-day story during which Holton was dismissed by his middle school and hanging out in the New York City. Although born in the middle and lead a wealthy life, Holton’s extreme and complicated inward world resulted in his strong dissatisfaction towards the society. During this two days, he was just like an abandoned child, helpless and aimless. In his teachers and parents’ mind, he was just a naughty bad boy, who can do nothing well. But in my opinion, he showed his shining points. Through his two-day journey, a picture of the dark side of the society was exposed. When the darkness and badness crashed, he was just a youngster with a heart yearning for beauty and loftiness. He struggled, and tried to protect the trueness around him. He has a wonderful heart longing for a pure world, but without the right and power to change many things, even so, he was still practicing his own mind. Dirty talk, unruly behaviors, were just the mask he wore to help him survive. Deeply inside his heart, he loved the world, he cared for the children. Because of his essence, he helped nuns raise money for survivor, he protected the weak and he took great care of his little sister.

Holton is just a youngster trying to save what he treasured. Like what he said, “My job is to watch there, if there are any children ran to the cliff edge, I caught him. I do all day long on such a thing. I just want to be a catcher in the Rye.”

In a word, I would also like to be a watcher of trueness in my world, not worrying or complaining like Holton, but influence the world in my way. I will learn to distinguish goodness against badness, and hold my essence like a watcher.

然而，<麦田里的守望者>却将这份守望演绎到另一个极端——是叛逆，却又有着一种混沌中的清醒与孤独，乃至无助。当然，所说的是主人公霍尔顿，也是作者自己。因为这世界总不缺乏一种“明白人”:自己洞察世事，却以一种极端的偏执混沌浮游尘世，然自己也套上一件世俗的外衣，只在夜深人静之时独自蹉跎。我想说的其实就是霍尔顿之类，以浊见清，以昏见明。然而霍尔顿本身又只是一个孩子，他必然有着对抗不合理现实世界的热情，也必然有着自以为是的偏激。也因此，此人物的设定就自然引起了读者的两种共鸣——其一，为其反叛而叹；其二，为其幼稚而惜。为构建悲剧，全书又在结尾设置了一个天真可爱的妹妹结束了霍尔顿漂泊之旅——这部不仅仅是肉体之旅的结束，更暗示着精神的回归，即回归世俗。看罢不禁一心悲凉——出世是东方文化所盼，而又是这样一种心境却在萌芽阶段就在西方现代文明的浸淫中化为死灰。

我无意于那些霍尔顿的模仿者，因为他们的意识里还未对霍尔顿有清晰完整的认识。但值得留意的是一些并未接触过此书的青少年也在走着霍尔顿之路。不用多说就是所指是90后。诚然，当代中国的发展已不可避免的走到了当年美国那一步。中国的新一代也面临着当年美国青年面对过的困惑。90后又将何去何从?

还是一片麦田，只不过位置已经跨越了一片太平洋。这里，谁又在守望?
