On the one hand, some people may say helping others may bring us trouble or even put us in dangers. There are humorous of people take advantage of others’ sympathy to cheat. In order to protect us we can not help them. But why you can not select a appropriate way? For example, helping someone who was robbed, calling the place is a much wiser way than chasing the robbers alone.

So we also should do our best to help strangers. The William Shakespeare said“virtue is blood, and goodness never fearful”. On the other hand, helping others is helping yourself, we may come across some trouble and need help from others one day, if everyone was coldhearted, what shall we do?

One of the primary causes is that helping others is a moral claim for us. A civilized person should help strangers who are really in need of help. In the old days, people didn’t take precautions against strangers like the situation today. They even invited travelers and beggars to their houses and cooked for them. People nearby ran to help them as much as possible, brought them water, blankets and called police and ambulance. What consequence would turn out if these injured couldn’t get help from the strangers?

Furthermore, maybe strangers would reward you. For instance, on a raining day, a young man called Ferri in Philadelphia department store provide a chair for an old woman who got in to take shelter from rain while other salespersons turned a blind eye to her. Some months later, the general manager James received a letter written by that old woman, mother of the Steel King, Andrew Carnegie. She asked him to send Ferri to Scotland to receive an order of decorating a whole castle and contract the purchase of office supplies for the next season for her family corporation.

Although I agree that there may be danger and inconvenience to help strangers as men are not what they were in times past, I felt that the advantages are more obvious in helping strangers. Given the factors I have just outlined, I can only say that we are responsible to help strangers.
