There are some easy things you can do to protect the environment and the earth. Choose ideas from the list or come up with a few of your own.

·Plant flowers, grass or trees.

·Whenever you visit a park or beach, take away what you bring there—keep rubbish in a bag until you can put it in a dustbin.

·Turn off the lights and TV sets when you leave the room. This can save a lot of electricity.

·Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. You can save some water by not letting it

run. Also, use a glass cup instead of a paper cup because this saves paper.

·Keep the doors and windows closed in winter to keep warm air in.

·Give your old books and magazines to a library instead of throwing them away.

·Give your old clothes to poor children you know instead of throwing them away. ·Use both sides of paper.

·Stop pouring dirty water into the rivers or lakes nearby.

·Encourage all your friends to do the same things you do to help protect the earth.

You don’t have to wait until Earth Day to do these things. Make every day Earth Day. If everyone makes a contribution to protecting the environment, the world will become much more beautiful.

五、任务型阅读(每空一词,10分)

Communication here means that people talk with each other about what they know, think and feel. We can learn a lot from good communication in our daily life. Part of the communication is unspoken, We sometimes show our feelings with our eyes, faces, bodies and attitudes. Some qualities can make good communication, including physical appearance, ability to speak, pleasant voice, how to hold the interest of others, and so on.

What should we do so that our communication will be effective(有效的)? Here are suggestions.

Firstly, you should be yourself. Successful people never change personal character from one situation to another. They’re the same whether they’re having a talk with their close friends or being interviewed for a job. They communicate with their whole being.

Secondly, whether you’re talking to one person or more, always remember to look at them. Don’t break eyes contact while talking. As you enter a room, move your eyes

comfortably, then look directly at those in the room and smile. This shows clearly that you are relaxed. Smiling is important. The best kind of smile and eye contact are gentle and comfortable.

You should also gather information about other people. If you attend a meeting or an interview, don’t immediately (立即) start throwing your ideas. Stop for a second. Know what’s going on there. What’s the mood of the others — are they down, up, happy? Do they want to learn from you, or do they show any interest? If you can feel what’s happening to others, you will be better able to reach them. So, listen before you talk.

The fourth suggestion is that you get your energy up. Before the meeting, collect your thoughts about it. You walk calmly through the doorway. Pay attention to the person you are meeting to find out what he is interested in. Properly collected energy comes across when you sincerely believe something. Always be confident. The audience may disagree with you, but they can’t question your belief.

Lastly, I would like to remind that you should not be too serious. That is to lighten up. Take a good hard look at yourself. Do you say “I” too often? Do you complain often? If you

In some countries children do not have these rights. Many young children are made to work long hours in factories and on farms. In some countries there are so few schools that only rich children get an education. There are not enough doctors or nurses to help many children when they are sick.

The rights of children are, therefore, the rights people think children should have. They are not always the rights children really have.

If you

She just looked at me with her big, tired brown eyes and said, "OH, dear, I'm not going to eat this lunch. You see, I have a little girl of my own .I usually can’t buy her favorite food, but today she will be so happy! "

When the bell rings, every student takes out an iPad. The light from the screens makes their young faces pretty and lively.

That’s what happens every day at my school in the US. We use iPads in class.

I felt surprised and excited when I got an iPad on the first day I arrived at the school. But it was not free. I paid about $100 to use it for three years.

Every iPad at my school has a special learning system (系统) called Focus. Teachers put their teaching materials like textbooks and PPTs on it. When we have classes, we enter the system and download (下载) the materials with our iPads.

It makes the classes interesting and efficient. For example, several weeks ago, we learned about former South African president(总统) Nelson Mandela. Our teacher prepared a video in which Mandela made an encouraging speech. We could not only watch the video, but also read the written copy of his speech at the same time. Thanks to the video, I know more about the great man.

We also do our homework with iPads. If the homework is made up of multiple choices (选择题), we can know our grades right after we hand in our homework online. If it’s articles, teachers grade them online, without needing to look through so many papers.

However, there are still some bad points about learning with iPads. Some of my classmates play games or log on social networking websites in class.

I think the key to using iPads well is to have good self-control (自制力). Don’t you think so?

As I walked through Beijing's Houhai neighborhood, something green caught my eye. Sprouts(豆芽), mushrooms and flowers all came out on people's heads, standing straight up. I was so surprised at the craziness that a lot of people have plants come out on their heads.

The trend(潮流) was a great chance for business. Merchants(小贩) stood on street comers' selling all kinds of plastic(塑料的) mushrooms and sprouts. Three yuan for one sprout, five for a pair. Customers put what they bought onto their heads and walked off, and the sprouts danced happily on people's head. China Daily also reported that one Taobao merchant sold 28,850 hairpins(发夹) in a month.

The strange trend had been popular for 2 months in China. I wanted to find out what was behind the strange hairpins. I went to the 798 Art District to do some research, There were tons of tourists with sprouts on heads, and a shopkeeper told me that the film Monster Hunt was the cause of the popularity. The 2015 Chinese movie featured a cute little monster with a patch of moss(苔藓)on the top of his head.

CNN reported in a different way: The idea of the hairpins came from a Japanese cartoon character. One smiling face has a pair of green leaves growing on its head. The trend was catching great attention from all over the world. Major newspapers like The Wall Street Journal and The Telegraph showed their confusion over the strange trend and they said they really couldn't understand why Chinese people were so crazy.

Some people think perhaps the hairpins are a symbol of the cute and childlike "meng" culture. Others believe they are the symbol of the love for cartoons. I think maybe this is showing their strong wishes to protect the environment.

Who knows? In fact, nobody cares about it. After all, beauty is mysterious(种秘的). What is it on your head?

66.The hairpins mentioned in the passage are mostly made from .

A.sprouts B.mushrooms C.flowers D.plastic

.

A. Merchants B. tourism C. environment D. big stores

68.The underlined word “confusion” A.they are angry with the trend B.they think the trend is a pity

C.they think the trend is terrible D.they can’t explain the trend

.

A. the strange hairpin may show people's wishes to protect the environment

B. merchants sold all kinds of wooden sprouts and mushrooms

C. a lot of people care about what the trend is for

D. the strange hairpin may come from a Korean cartoon

Steve Jobs made technology fun. The cofounder of Apple died on October 5, 2011 at the age of 56. He had

fought for years against cancer. Mourners gathered outside his house in Palo Alto, California, and Apple stores around the world.

He and his friend Steve Wozniak started Apple Computer--now just called Apple--in 1976. They stayed at the

company until 1985. That year, Steve Wozniak returned to college and Steve Jobs left because of a conflict with the chief executive.

Mr Jobs then formed his own company, called NeXT Computer. He rejoined Apple in 1997 after it bought

NeXT. He helped remake Apple from a business that was in bad shape then to one of the most valuable companies in the world today.

Steve Wozniak, speaking on CNN, remembered his longtime friend as a "great visionary(有先见之明的)and leader" and a "marketing genius".

President Obama said in a statement: "By building one of the planet's most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified(例证) the spirit of American ingenuity(独创性). By making computers personal and putting the Internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive(直观的) and fun. ”

David Carroll is a professor at Parsons School of Design in New York City. He says Steve Jobs not only revolutionized technology, he also revolutionized American business. "The fact that he was able to redesign American commerce top to bottom and across is really stunning. He probably will be considered an industrial giant on the scale of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, so one of the great of all time," he said.

Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple's chief executive in August because of his health.

A newly-published study has shown that loneliness can spread from one person to another, like a disease. Researchers used information from the Framingham Heart Study, which began in 1948. The Framingham study gathers information about physical and mental health, personal behavior and diet. At first, the study involved about five thousand people in the American state of Massachusetts. Now, more than twelve thousand individuals are taking part.

Information from the Framingham study showed earlier that happiness can spread from person to person. So can behaviors like obesity (肥胖) and the ability to stop smoking. University of Chicago psychologist John Cacioppo led the recent study. He and other researchers attempted to show how often people felt lonely. They found that the feeling of loneliness spread through social groups.

Having a social connection with a lonely person increased the chances that another individual would feel lonely. In fact, a friend of a lonely person was 52% more likely to develop feelings of loneliness. A friend of that person was 25% more likely. The researchers say this shows that a person could indirectly be affected by someone's loneliness.

The effect was the strongest among friends. Neighbors were the second most affected group. The effect was weaker on husbands and wives, and brothers and sisters. The researchers also found that loneliness spread more easily among women than men.

The New York Times newspaper reports that, on average, people experience feelings of loneliness about 48 days a year. Yet the study found that having a friend who is lonely can add about 17 days a year of loneliness. It also found that every additional friend can decrease loneliness by about 5%, or two and a half fewer lonely days. Loneliness has been linked to health problems like depression and sleeping difficulties. The researchers believe that knowing the causes of loneliness could help in reducing it.

The researchers did not study how loneliness spreads. However, the study suggests that people can take steps to stop the spread of loneliness.
