Volunteer Your Time篇一:volunteer

Why Do You Want to Be a Volunteer?

Our society has generally accepted the view of economics, that is, human beings are essentially selfish, seeking to maximize their own interests, pursuing happiness and avoiding suffering. However, in the dictionary the word “volunteer” is defined as “a person who does a job without being paid for it”, from which we know that as a volunteer you have the duty to do lots of things, but you can get no repay.

It is easy to see that the spirit of volunteers and human’s sense of values is paradoxical. However, these days some people, especially some university graduates, are willing to give up the material comforts and go to the remote areas to serve as a volunteer. Why there are so many people are eager to be a volunteer? What can they get from it?

At present, facing the cult of volunteers, many people are wondering the motivation of them. However, as far as I am concerned, most of the volunteers have one of these two motivations. The first one: in order to rich their life experience and improve their own abilities.

Take university students as an example. As we all know, nowadays, university students spend almost all of their time in the school----from kindergarten to university----no less than 18 years, when they are always being taking care of their parents or their teachers. They do not have chance to challenge themselves, to learn to take care of others, to experience more and to get the true meaning of life. Considering all of these, they often try their best to get some chances to be volunteers, and when they graduated, they even decided to be a teacher of remote areas. They cannot get a lot of money, they cannot enjoy material comforts, and they even cannot be understood by others, but they are clearly know that they are doing what they like, and they know from these experience they would know much about life and they will grow up.

The second one: only to help others.

We should never forget the spirit of volunteers: do what we can and help others. In fact, the first kind of volunteers I mentioned above also has this kind of motivation, however, for the second kind of volunteers, they always help others and never consider about what they can get. For them, to be volunteers is not their duties but their responsibilities, or rather, a part of their life. They like helping others, and when they help others they feel very happy and they win some sense of satisfaction. All in all, they enjoy the life to be volunteers.

In my eyes, maybe at first different people have different motivations to be volunteers, but when you begin to be a volunteer, when you do something to help others, when you see the smile on others’ faces, you will forget all the other motivations but only to help others with your whole heart.

Olympic Games is window, I keep watch. This is a maximum window, had been rubbed bright. Through it, those that see are worlds. Here, it is changing every day, here burgeoning thing is being replaced. Have only me, this loyalty keep watch, it is paying attention to it every day, hopes to know it more. Olympic Games is crossing, I am pedestrian. There are many persons who pass here every day, there is Asian, have European, there is old person, have child. Here is traffic fort, joins the friend of all corners of the country. I pass the one of persons of hundreds of millions of here merely, cross it, go to another world. Olympic Games is Holy Land, I am volunteer. This is the land with pure flat, has holy fire from start to finish to accompany in side. Just because it is so, I pay out voluntarily for it, I will let my strength, let this slice of land more clean, let more ones know it, is also willing to devote oneself to it as me. I still help to the person who comes to here,

let them enjoy the happiness of this slice of Holy Land. Olympic Games is platform, I am host. It has put up platform for us , lets world know us; It has built bridge for us , lets us and world link up better. This platform may let us display self wantonly. I am the host of here, I am proud to be the host of here. I will let the friendship of landlord, let guest experience enthusiasm and happiness.

When you volunteer, you give part of yourself–your time, energy, skills and feelings. You give to your family and friends, to your neighbours, to your community. Sometimes, you are giving to people you don’t know, to people thousands of kilometers away.

Giving is one of the reasons why people volunteer. Their contributions to others and to their communities bring them feelings of self-fulfillment and the knowledge that they have made a difference.

Volunteering is also a way of saying thank you. It’s a way of recognizing the countless others who, in big ways and small, have made life richer and better through donations of time and effort. But there is more to volunteering than giving.

As a volunteer, you also reap personal benefits and enhance your personal growth. You can increase social awareness, learn through service, enjoy better health, gain self-confidence, discover your strengths and talents , build a sense of independence , and expand your social circle. Volunteering gets you ready for the workforce. By volunteering you an develop skills, gain work experience, explore career options, and develop a job-finding network.

With a strong résumé and new skills, you’ll find it easier to strut your stuff to prospective employers, fill out university or college application forms, talk to scholarship or bursary officers, or take on more challenging volunteer positions in the community.

That’s the thing about volunteering. You get as much out of it as you put into it! And often, you get a whole lot more.

So, roll up your sleeves and get involved. Start by reading this booklet. It will answer some of your questions and give you other ideas to think about. It will also show you ways of getting the most out of volunteering.

As a youth, you will find volunteering a great experience. But it doesn’t stop now. By catching the volunteer bug, you will be giving yourself a lifetime of rewarding experiences.

With the development of society, more and more people take part in the group of volunteers. It's a great advances of human being. Just think, would it be a truth in a turbulent situation? I couldn't believe that many people help others gratuitously when their lives are threatende. Beyond all question, volunteers had made a lot of contribution to society. For one thing they lightened the burden on the state.Because of them, our nation could save much money to do more things. As far as I can remember, when a violent eathquake occured in Wenchuan, more and more

volunteers joined there from all over the world. We are greatly touched by what they did.Equally, the volunteers of Beijing Olympic also unfolded the best of our country before the world people's eyes. For another they set up a good example for others, and told us that love exist anywhere. We are a family forever. From their angles,it's an opportunity to grow up,they can raise thmselves in this way.

As a student of university,we should participate in the volunteer activity. Before it is too late,we'd better do more things for society to repay it.After all, the hope of nation is held by us. To be a volunteer all the time

A long time ago, when I was a little girl, I had a dream to be a volunteer in the Olympics. But when I knew that volunteers must be adults, I became sad and angry. I didn’t want to give up, so I learned English very hard.

And then I realized one important thing——everyone can be volunteers. It’s not a job or a charity, so you can do it all the time and all by yourself. When you help others, you are a volunteer!

To be volunteers doesn’t mean that you have to join a group or a club and then help someone with a big influence. It means helping others with taking nothing from them and of course you should like to do that. So you can choose what you like. For example, if you want to be a teacher, maybe you can go to a primary school to help teach the children. If you want to be a post man, you can go to the post office to help send the letters. Maybe you can go to old people’s home to help them, and make them happy. Or you can go to play with the homeless children. Maybe you won’t be able to go to these places, but you can help old people to go across the street, and help the people who lose the way. That’s also a kind of volunteer. So you see, we don’t need to take part in the Olympics to be volunteers. We can just be a warm-hearted person and help others.

Helping is a good way to make all of us happy, it’s good to help others. You can learn many things from it, such as good manners, good characters. Give a helping hand as a volunteer, then the world will be more beautiful.

Volunteer Your Time篇二:How to Volunteer

How to VolunteerVolunteering is a great way to further a cause, support an organization, and make a difference in your community. It can also be an opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills. If you'd like to give something besides money, consider lending your time and talents to organizations that are important to you. Steps: 1.Consider why you want to volunteer. Do you want to help the world or your community? Do you want to build your own skills, make new friends, and learn? Do you love what you do? Do you want to share your gifts with others or give something back? Examining these sorts of questions can help you to choose the right direction for your volunteer work. 2.Choose an organization that is meaningful to you. If you feel strongly about literacy, for instance, volunteer at your local library or find out if there is an organization of volunteer tutors in your area. There are organizations doing all sorts of work, and it is especially important with volunteer work that you choose something that you value. Organizations exist for all sorts of purposes, so if dishing up food at a soup kitchen doesn't sound like your cup of tea, consider ushering at your local theater, building homes, or volunteering at a hospital or animal shelter. 3.Look for an organization or activity in your area or community. While some volunteers do sign up for the Peace Corps or other worldwide organizations and travel to remote parts of the world, you should probably start on a smaller scale than that, especially if you already have commitments at home. If you do plan on venturing abroad in your volunteer work, get lots of information about what to expect there and ask your doctor about getting immunizations appropriate to your destination. Talk to others who have traveled with your intended organization and ask them to share their experiences, too. 4.Seek out an organization and tasks within it that suit your skills and interests. Of course, you can develop new skills and learn many things by volunteering, but your volunteer work can still be compatible with your interests. If you're an outgoing "people person", you might not have much fun in the back office stuffing envelopes or filing papers. Others, by contrast, might find it uncomfortable to solicit funds door-to-door. Do you love to work with people? With animals? With children? With numbers? Are you handy? Do you love to speak or to write? Organizations need all sorts of skills. If you're not sure what sort of work you like or dislike, a volunteer organization may be a great opportunity to dabble a bit and try different things. 5.Start small. If you already have a busy schedule, volunteer your time for an hour or two per week or perhaps one day per month. (Just about anybody can free up that much time easily. Try turning off the TV!) You might be surprised how much you can accomplish in even a little bit of time. Then, if you find you enjoy the work and have more time to p

ursue it, gradually take on more. 6.Get to know others in the organization and how the group supports volunteers. Attend a training or orientation session, if one is available; if not, talk to local group leaders and other volunteers in the community about their experiences. You'll learn what to expect of an organization and your work with it, and you'll pick up some good tips to make your work there more productive and more meaningful. 7.Explain your own background and preferences to those in charge. They can help to match you with meaningful, suitable tasks, but only if they know a bit about who you are. --Ask, don't demand. The people in charge of organizing, whether or not they are also volunteers, have certain needs to meet and may be quite busy. --Especially if you're just starting out, consider helping with an immediate need even if it is not the ideal match for your abilities. Work doesn't always neatly match the people available to do it. You will still be helping the organization and you might learn a new skill or discover something about yourself. The favor you earn may also help you into a more suitable or desirable task next time. 8.Get started. Ask plenty of questions and do your research, but until you sign up and get your feet wet, you won't know if volunteering for a particular organization is really right for you. 9.Get training. If your organization has a formal orientation or training, attend it. If not, or if you still don't know where to begin, ask to work with an experienced volunteer or group. Then, ask lots of questions and give it a shot. 10.Try not to give up. Volunteer organizations, too, sometimes have less-pleasant tasks, difficult fellow workers, busy times, slow times, or bad management. If you find your work unpleasant, you have choices: --Work through it, anyway. If you feel it needs doing, but it's dull or heavy work, put the music on, divide it into manageable pieces, take breaks when you need them, and get the job done. Don't forget to look for ways to ease the task or prepare better next time. --Get help. If you're overwhelmed, confused, or stuck, ask if there is anyone else that could step up and give you a hand, even temporarily to get through some backlog or difficulty. Organizations may also have other resources to draw on, from contacts to sister organizations to libraries and municipalities. --Fix the problem. If there's something in your way, it's probably in everybody else's way, too. Lead the charge to get more volunteers, more money, better equipment, or skilled help. Clean up messes when you see them. Suggest (gently, please!) how matters could be better handled or organized. Or, simply bring the problem to the attention of the organization or its leaders and ask what can be done. --Take a break or back off. If you're exhausted, you may not be doing yourself or anyone else any good. Would everybody be better off if you came back with fresh energy later?

--Ask to do something else. If you feel you can better serve the organization by doing something more in line with your talents or skills, say so, and let organization leaders know what sorts of tasks or talents you would rather contribute. --Look to another organization or branch. If you have tried all your best diplomatic skills and still have difficulty with the tasks or people you encounter, leave graciously and look elsewhere. Mismatches and mismanagement can happen in volunteer organizations, too. --Start your own organization or volunteer freelance. Remember, though, that you may be on your own to provide the money and talent that an established volunteer organization may already have secured. 11.Have fun! You will accomplish more if you love what you do, and chances are good that your enthusiasm will infect others.

Volunteer Your Time篇三:英语作文volunteer

Volunteer Your Time篇四:volunteer

Today I will talk about the benefits of being a volunteer. Last Sunday, I went to volunteer in Haizhu Wetland Park. It was a nice day with nice weather and nice people. Every visitor showed their kindness to me, for which I felt happy and energetic although I had been standing for over 7 hours. I suppose that is the most important reasons why more and more people attend to be a volunteer. However, the benefits of being a volunteer go beyond this.

First, Helps You Stay Active.

Sometimes when you need to do something the most, is when you feel the least like doing anything. This is where volunteering can help out. It’s a lot more difficult to blow off volunteering than a casual appointment with a friend. So when you feel like shit, and you don’t really want to, but really need to stay active, volunteering is your friend. Second, Help You Get New experiences

Volunteering is a brilliant way to get life experience. Whether you build a library or mail flyers to raise awareness for a local charity, you will experience the real world through hands-on work. This guide section has established that volunteers can do almost anything and with the new millennium has dawned an era of infinite volunteer opportunities. For example, it is possible to volunteer in developing countries and see the direct impact of your actions on some of the most vulnerable people of the world.

Third, Helps You Expand Your Network

One of the great things with volunteering is that you meet a very wide variety of people. Instead of looking at it in a negative light of meeting people you don’t have a lot in common with, think of it as expanding your network. You’re getting to know people involved in many different walks in life that you wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. Fortunately, you may make some true friends.

Fourth, Help You Live Longer

Volunteering can make you happier and help you live longer, according to a new study. A research paper published in the journal BMC Public Health says doing good deeds for others boosts your mental health and increases your longevity.

Most of time, being a volunteer is beneficial for spirit not material. If you are always unhappy and boring, why not spend your time on helping others, you will cheer up from it.

“Class, tomorrow I want you to bring a cup of macaroni (通心粉) for our craft class, OK?” These words from my teacher repeated in my mind all day. I was afraid of the next day because I knew we had no macaroni at home. Living in an alcoholic environment, we never had too much of anything except beer bottles.

I went home after school. Where could I find macaroni? I knew that the local bottle shop gave ten cents for a beer bottle, so I decided to sell some bottles to get money for macaroni.

I started collecting the bottles and sold them. I earned eighty cents. Although I did my best, I still had no macaroni for my craft class.

“Weren‟t you listening when I asked you to bring it, John?” my teacher asked.

I was embarrassed. I didn‟t know what to say and other children started laughing. Then a little girl, Rosalyn, who sat beside me turned to me and said, “You can have some of mine.” She gave a bag of macaroni to me. The kindness in her eyes made me start to cry and I ran out of the room in shame.

I never took her macaroni or thanked her for her bag of kindness. However, I often think about Rosalyn and the way she turned to save me that day. Volunteer Your Time篇七:how to manage your time

How to we manage your time

Time is a part of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change such as the motions of objects.

Nowadays people seems to be ran out time and busier than ever Whether you are single or juggling family responsibilities. How to manage your time is the most difficult question for people who want to live a modern life. Here are some tips that I think is very effective all you need is just a note paper, a calendar and a to-do list. First you have to create a schedule and a to-do Write down deadlines for accomplishing certain tasks(day, week, month, etc). Prioritize the tasks in order of importance, urgency and eliminate any non-essential items. Such as if you don’t have schedule for class you should’ve plan a few hours for self studying.

Secondly, Learn to say no to nonessential demands on your time. Don't volunteer for a committee if you don't have time. Try to decline invitations to events you don't have

time to attend and Don't feel bad saying "no" to requests for your time that will just add extra stress to your life. For example if you’ve been requested to do something that would have waste a lot of your time with no return and you’re not good at it at all try to say no.

Third, Try to avoid spending too much time on the internet, such as using time on the social network

(facebook, twitter, MSN,QQ). You’ll never can manage the time you spend on these website. Computers and the Internet were supposed to make our life easier, but in fact for some people the computers suck all our time.

last, Create some personal time by waking up half an hour or an hour earlier. In this cast you’ll have more time dress up and do a pretty make up, you’ll have more time to prepare and eat a healthy breakfast means full energy for all morning.

In spite all these tips what is the most important key of managing your time is to have a will to do it. It all depends on you yourself, if you make all the to-do list but you won’t follow it, it won’t make any differences.

The basis of effective time management lies in the fact that we cannot accomplish every single thing that we would like to accomplish. For example: I’m a medical college student of course all of my time I would have to spend it on study. But I also wanted to play sports, do some exercise fitting up myself a bit. And I also would like learn how to play the musical instrument and the most importantly I would have maintain my social life. How do I have enough time to do all this? Of course, I believe if I just manage my schedule well enough I’ll have my time.

How to Find Happiness Without Buying It

Our materialistic society has led us to believe that happiness cannot be obtained without having money.

Rather than learning to be satisfied with what we have, we are taught to want more. We learn from advertising, and from the media, that we need to buy trinkets and toys in order to make ourselves happy, or to fulfill emotional needs, and that the purchases they are trying to talk us into will provide us with the psychological comfort we are looking for.

Unfortunately, as a society we have bought into these misguided messages and have come to believe that spending money on certain items will bring us fame, fortune, happiness, beauty, or popularity. We end up using money as a crutch to provide us with something we ultimately must find within ourselves. As we become caught up in this charade, we trade precious hours of our lives trying to earn the money we have been taught to covet so much.

We trade hours of our lives working, sacrificing time that could have been spent with our families, for the pursuit of the almighty dollar.

In order to find true happiness, we first must learn to change our attitudes about money. We must learn that money, and the spending of it, provides only a temporary relief but does not present us with any real long lasting benefits. We end up owning something we either do not really want or do not really need, and the underlying emotional issues remain.

Rather than focus on the temporary satisfaction you may feel from spending money, try the following to bring you happiness without it.

Imagine Having no Money

Imagine what you would do for happiness if you had no money at all. Think about how you would spend your time, and what you would do for enjoyment. Change your focus from material possessions to other things that bring you enjoyment, such as spending quality time with your family and friends. Rather than focusing on the accumulation of possessions, concentrate instead on playing with or reading to your children, or spending time out enjoying nature.

Want What you Already Have

Society teaches us to want what others have. Instead, shift your thinking so that you are satisfied with, or want, what is already yours. What tends to happen is once we reach our goals in terms of owning personal possessions, we trade those old goals in for a set of new ones that involves bigger, better, and grander objects.

Goals are good to have because they motivate us to work, and to continue to strive for self improvement. The key is to find a balance between having worthy goals and recognizing when we are allowing the desire for possessions to overwhelm the importance of other aspects of our lives. Rather than constantly striving for things we do not have, we need to shift our focus to being thankful for the things we already possess.

Volunteer Your Time

One way to appreciate what you have is to work with others who have nothing, or who have disabilities that no amount of money can overcome. Volunteering time to work in a food bank, or to work with underprivileged children, can really alter your perspective on where you are in life, and can create a deeper appreciation for the gifts you do have in your life.

Helping others can boost your spirits as well. There is a great deal of personal satisfaction to be gained from giving aid to those who are in need of it, leaving you with a sense of satisfaction that will carry over into your own life. Use the experiences of helping others to teach your children compassion and civic responsibility.

There are a number of ways to enjoy life without the need for a great deal of money. Certainly, it is important to work and earn enough to provide for our basic needs and the needs of our families, but it is important to recognize when the desire for personal possessions becomes overly consuming. There needs to be a balance between a satisfying work life and a rich home life, and the best way to achieve such a balance is to ensure the drive for material possessions does not become all consuming.

How to quickly build a new social circle in any new city

Even if you are naturally shy, these three tricks will help you to quickly build a new social circle in any new city.

1. Take Pictures

One of the great things about taking pictures at an event or party is that it gives you an excuse to get in touch with the person later. Everybody loves seeing pictures of themselves, and it’s very easy after taking a picture to say “Are you on Facebook?” or “If you’d like I can email it to you.”

This can be the seed that leads to new connections. The next time you hear about a fun event email your new contacts to let them know about it.

2. Eat Alone In Public

If you don’t know anyone in a new city, it can be tempting to order take-out and retreat back to your lonely apartment or hotel room. Instead, try eating by yourself in public as often as possible.

You might feel self-conscious eating by yourself but it has an important benefit: you are much easier to approach when you are alone. People may be afraid of interrupting you or being rude if you are in a conversation with someone else.

Bring a book or newspaper to read (this will make you feel less self conscious). Plus, having an interesting book with you will give others an excuse to start a conversation if they’ve read it.

3. Join A Class, Sports Team, Or Club

Yoga, salsa dancing, volleyball, jogging, Toastmasters (a public speaking club), a class for work, martial arts, etc. Take up a new hobby or continue an old one!

瑜伽,萨尔萨舞,排球,慢跑,Toastmasters(公开演讲俱乐部),工作学习班,武术,等等。

These are all great places to meet new people, primarily because you will be forced to see the same people over and over again in the class. You will automatically make friends with them if you have a common interest and are forced to see each other again.

Bonus Tips:

* In the beginning, never turn down an invitation from someone, even if it’s something you wouldn’t normally do.

* Email your new friends with fun things to do instead of always asking what their plans are. If they have a better plan you can always still drop yours and join them. This will help establish you as someone who is contributing value instead of just taking it (people want this in a friend).

* Don’t let little things in life piss you off or be a negative person. Others won’t want to be around you!

10 Foods That Will Kill You!

You’re probably aware of all the foods that are good for you, like fresh fruits and vegetables, but do you know about the foods that can kill you? These unhealthy foods can lead to some serious health problems, especially if you eat them regularly. Want to know what they are? Well, keep reading!

1. Fruit Juice

A lot of shoppers think they are healthy when they purchase fruit juice, but these are actually very bad for the body. Not only are most made with artificial flavors and not any real fruit, they are packed full of sugar and other chemicals that can cause obesity and other serious health problems. Even real fruit juice is packed full of sugar that provides you with no nutritional value. It’s best to eat a piece of fruit instead of drink it, unless you’re juicing your own fresh fruits and vegetables at home.

2. Processed Meats

The chemicals that are inside of processed meats have been linked to colon cancer and many

other health problems. They are also packed full of sugar, salt and fat that can lead to obesity and diabetes. You’re always better off cooking your own meat from lean cuts and avoiding the processed meats all together.

3. Energy Bars

Energy bars are marketed as healthy snacks for people who want to lose weight and get fit. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t read the nutritional information on these bars in the first place. Many of them are made with a lot of sugar and fat, even though they are high in protein. You’re better off staying away from these and reaching for a natural snack, like almonds and cheese, instead.

4. Frozen Dinners and Lunches

Sure those frozen meals are convenient, but what price do you pay for that convenience? These frozen dinners, even those that are low in calories, are really high in sodium. They are also extremely processed, which means they really put your body through a lot of work in order to digest through your body.

5. Breakfast Cereals

There are really only a few breakfast cereals on store shelves today that are actually good for you. Even those that are labeled “healthy” generally turn out to be packed full of sugar and fat. You might be surprised to find that most of the cereals you love have more sugar than your dessert does! On top of all of that, cereals are normally processed quite a bit and made with chemicals to make them seem “healthier” to the consumer.

6. Doughnuts

Speaking of breakfast foods, who doesn’t love a sugary doughnut when they are running late to start the day? Although they may taste good, these are a huge source of sugar, fat, trans fat and carbohydrates. In fact, just one of these fried treats is generally well over 300 calories. Since most people tend to eat more than one, this can lead to quick weight gain without even realizing it.
