Module 2 我的新老师

人们常说第一印象(first impression)很重要。我对李老师的第一印象是她既紧张(nervous)又害羞(shy)。我想,她那时可能就是这样,因为那是她给我们上的第一节课。但现在,在两周之后,全班学生真的喜欢上她的课了。她和蔼,有耐心,而且解释英语语法非常清楚,连我也能听懂!她不会(avoid避免)让你觉得自己很笨!我总是很讨厌出错或者在说英语时发错 (incorrectly 不正确地) 单词的音,但李老师只是笑笑,这样(so that 因此),你就不会觉得自己很笨(completely stupid)!我认为对接受快的学生来说,得有点慢,但对我来说,真是太棒了!我觉得跟着她学习我会取得进步( make progress)。

我猜想陈老师差不多有60岁了。她很严格――――除非她让我们说,否则我们一句话也不敢说。她还很严肃(serious),很少笑。当她要求你做某事时,你要马上(immediately)去做!我们班有几个学生上课老是迟到,但他们总是准时上陈老师的课。班里有的同学不喜欢她,但我们大多数同学都很欣赏(appreciate)她,因为她讲课既有条理(well organized)又清楚。一些学生甚至承认(admit)喜欢她!在做科学实验(scientific experiments)时,她准确地讲解发生了什么,结果(as a result),我的功课不断进步。虽然物理永不会是我最喜欢的课,但我认为由陈老师教我,我会考得很好。

我的名字叫艾丽丝.汤姆逊,我来自澳大利亚悉尼,今年18岁了。最近我乘火车进行了我的第一次长途旅行。多精彩的旅行啊!朋友们和我乘坐著名的阿富汗火车旅行。我们在悉尼上车(get on),在澳大利亚中部的艾丽斯.斯普林斯下车(get off)。行程四千多千米。我们坐了两天两夜的火车。

为什么这列火车被命名为阿富汗呢?许久以前,澳大利亚人需要一种途径去国家中部。他们尝试过骑马,但马不喜欢炎热的天气和沙地。150年前,他们从阿富汗买来一些骆驼(camel)。Ghan是阿富汗的缩写(be short for)。

骆驼比起马匹更适合长途跋涉。多年来,受过训练的(trained)骆驼运出食物和其他供应品,然后运回羊毛和其他产品(product).

磁悬浮列车---世界上最快的列车

世界上最快的火车---超速磁浮列车,奔驰在上海浦东机场和上海市商业区的(downtown)龙阳车站之间。列车以每小时400多千米的速度前进,能走8分钟内完成30千米的路程。

磁悬浮的意思是“磁力悬浮”。超速磁悬浮列车是世界上第一列使用磁悬浮技术的高速列车。磁悬浮列车是两块磁铁间的真空中(vacuum)行驶。有无铁轨(rail)和又无噪音。它们速度很快,而且能量消耗较少。

2002年12月1号,朱镕基总理和德国总理参加了通车开幕式(opening ceremony)。两位领导人乘坐了这列车去了到浦东机场。

They say that first impressions are very important. My first impression of Mrs. Li was that she was nervous and shy.

I think perhaps she was, as it was her first lesson with us. But now, after two weeks, the class really likes working with her.
